Max Clayton watch is NOT going well, he started off very poorly (which makes the FA award for Young Player Of September look ridiculous, they obviously didn't watch him) and since then he's being struggling for form and fitness (he's missed the last couple of games with injury).

Part of the problem is that the manager seems to like playing him up front with another talented youngster, AJ Leitch-Smith, but IMO they are not suited to a partnership. They are both very lightweight and it reminds me of when we tried to play Fowler & Owen together on a few occasions with limited success.

They need to invest in a target man and play him with EITHER Leitch-Smith or Clayton. I still think Clayton will turn out to be a superb player but so far this season I'd give him 5/10. He's not helped by the fact that Crewe's midfield is very anaemic, they sold their best midfielder to Villa in the summer and haven't replaced him. They look like a very insipid team with a decent central defence but that won't be enough to keep them up. They need to bring in reinforcements soon.

There are quite a few exciting young players in the first division and most of the ones I list below will be in the EPL within 2 seasons....................

I will fill in the full back positions and left midfield as the season progresses.

Wallace had a few scouts there looking at him the other day. He's doing well.
He was impressive on loan at Tranmere last season too and I was surprised nobody from The Championship made a move. He and ex-LFC John Welsh built up a formidable partnership last season and I was surprised Tranmere sold Welsh but in fairness they haven't missed him too much so far. Everton might one day regret letting Wallace go.
