They're Arsenal fans, since when are we attributing them any form of intelligence? They're just Spurs lite.

I'm just surprised there wasn't some financial accounting crowbarred into that comparison somewhere.

Ha. Lucky players are judged solely on Stats. I thought he had a good game and was our only real creative spark again

It does boggle the mind as to why he was playing on the right last night. You do that and you take away the majority of his threat. Rodgers for you.

Fuck me.

He played there so he could be supported by Clyne, and thus freed up from defensive responsibility and provided with an outlet in Clyne up the wing to occupy the full-back.

He also didn't stay on the right, and spent the entire first half roaming inside and taking the fucking piss.

He was the most influential player on the pitch by a country mile, irrespective of position.

The manager, to the contrary, got this one right.

Still, why not stick Lallana on the right and give our best player the central role?

He obviously does roam in from the right, but it definitely makes it harder to bang in a 25 yarder when he's coming in from the right as opposed to the left.

Coutinho has assumed the mantle from Gerrard of the team's teflon player judging from the commentary yesterday. He played some maddeningly wasteful and impulsive balls when the team desperately needed to hold on to possession, be patient and work on movement collectively, but even then it was all 'The little magician is pulling the strings'. He needs to keep working hard to improve - his judgement especially - but thank god we've got him.

Regardless of the other stats a 73% pass completion rate would embarrass Momo Sissoko. It's possible not to love the little imp but he can be wildly inconsistent.

It's that move when he gets the ball out wide, cuts in and stabs the ball towards the congested penalty area when there are about five or six opposition players lined up to intercept it. I wish he'd cut that out. Time and again he does it and I can't remember it working once. Granted that too many of his own players are just standing flat-footed and stationary, but he needs to respond to that by keeping hold of the ball rather than surrendering it so cheaply.

I don't buy that Redstar. He tries to force it a bit too much, but there's a reason he's wasteful, because he will try the kind of pass no one else on the pitch has the vision to see, so inevitably it will result in him losing possession a bit. If he wanted to keep it simple, cf Allen, Henderson etc, I'm sure he could, but what would be the point in him then?

If we're gonna address pass completion, we should probably look at key pass stats to give it balance.

Coutinho is a bit Luis Garcia for me, moments of absolute stunning brilliance, other times (in the same match) absolutely poor shooting, passing and wastefulness. He is a brilliant player though.

At times last night I thought he was playing a different game to everyone else.

Yes, its frustrating when he forces the play and gives up the ball too cheaply, but that has to be attributed to the exuberance of youth, and something that he will learn from. I think holding up play is a tough one, especially with the expectation on him to set our tempo/add dynamism to our forward passing; the last thing we want is for him to get slated like Lallana for taking too many touches.

On balance I'm happy with him trying to play killer balls, and on occasion forcing this a little too early, if the pay off is getting defenders consistently backtracking at a rate of knots worrying about the ball in through the channels. I do agree however with the points about some of his delivery and wasteful shooting, which need to improve sharpish.

He's four years older than Ibe. It's high time he cut that stuff out. Otherwise I agree with you.

I'm not sure how many players do cut that stuff out though. We've got good players around him, but it's not really on a par with Silva (for example) setting up chances for numerous technically strong players. He's feeding players like Ibe, Henderson etc who often make good runs into promising positions, only to be let down by a poor touch. I think he'll come to the fore again a bit more when you get players like Firmino and/or Sturridge around him, players you know will take a killer first touch onto one of his passes and make it matter.

I do agree though, it's one area of his game he can massively improve on, but he is still relatively young.

It seems like Philippe along with Rafinha have been called up to the Brazil squad to replace the injured Oscar and Ramires

Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho has been called up to the Brazil squad after the withdrawal of Chelsea’s Oscar and Ramires. The 23-year-old was a surprising omission from Dunga’s original squad for next week’s friendlies against Costa Rica and the United States, a decision that was described as “unbelievable” by the Liverpool manager, Brendan Rodgers. However, injuries to Ramires and Oscar have opened the door for Coutinho, who will be also joined in the squad by Barcelona’s Rafinha. Brazil will face Costa Rica on 5 September in New Jersey before travelling to Boston to face the US on 8 September – four days before Liverpool meet Manchester United in the Premier League. Rafinha, brother of the Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcântara, is in line to make his debut having previously represented Spain at youth level.

Lol Oscar an ramieres both struck down ? What are the odds, I wonder if they will make the chelsea bench post-internationals

I don't know what Coutinho's attitude is to international duty, but the knowledge that he can be selected for Brazil while playing for Liverpool might encourage him to stay.
