Great news ... kid seems different - but in today's game, who knows.

Hopefully, he'll be able to lift some silverware this year.

Depends whether he turns up in the final or not..

Seriously cracking player, just needs to be consistent with it.. Their where promising signs before he got injured he stepped it up a level..

Good to tie him down long term, though its only protecting our investment in him. Just means we can get as Suarez type fee when Barca come knocking in the summer..

Priceless.

World class on his day and our most important creative outlet. We'd struggle to find a better alternative in the market really even if we had gazillions to spend.

This is a very significant message both from the player himself and the club. We are on the up.

Excellent news. Hopefully he'll get the trophies he deserves

Important move by us. He will be a leader and a player People want to play with. I mean - do you want to play with Coutinho or for Pogba.

“Ever since my arrival here, I was welcomed with open arms by the supporters - and everyone at this football club.

“This is an important factor that carries weight when you decide to remain here for a longer period - and this did have a lot of weight when I thought about the renewal of my contract.

“I can only thank every supporter for their faith in me. I really hope to repay them. I will do my very best on the pitch to create assists for my teammates and score goals for us to try and win trophies and titles.

“It’s not just me - since me and my family arrived here we have been welcomed with open arms by everyone. We feel at home in this city, we feel a part of this city. It is a very important day for me, my wife and my daughter. I am happy - and everyone is happy at home!”

“Jürgen is a great manager,” the 24-year-old stated. “We all can see how much he has changed here since he arrived - and how much he will change in future. He is a winner.

“It’s not only me, but every other player feels honoured to play at this great club for this great manager. This feeling has a very positive influence on us as players.”

He will be here next season definitely. Remember his new salary doesn't start until July. If he was looking to leave he would have made sure there was a release clause and that his new salary started now.

What brilliant news to wake up to. I'm going to have a cup of assam to celebrate! 🙂

I really hope you are right but I don't think we should be over confident he will be here next season, we saw all this before from Suarez didn't we. This is what he said when he signed a new contract with us in Dec 13, and then he was off six months later! Even the rumours of the contract have familiarities 150k a week rising to 200k being very similar to Suarez's deal. Would the no buy out clause make much difference if he wanted to go?

"It's nice because when you extend your contract, you extend it because you want to stay here for the future," said the 26-year-old. "I signed not only for two-and-a-half more years, but I signed for a long time to stay here and I am so happy. When you are happy, you try everything for the best for the future. I spoke a lot with my family because my family are very important to me and they are happy here. We spoke over the last few weeks with the club and everything is OK. I don't have a problem; the club don't have a problem, so it's very good."

well, whatever your opinion on just how good he is , him signing a new deal is a signal of where the club is going and the feeling around the place.

hopefully that has some sort of impact on attracting the right players to the club in the summer too!

given the drama surrounding ozil and sanchez its doubly lovely

Well if he was looking to go this summer then why sign a contract at all? In Suarez case he got a pay rise. But in coutinho case his pay rise doesn't start until July. So that makes me fairly confident (of course nothing is certain).

If anybody thinks, one of the top 3 Brazilian players in the world will stay here for the long term especially with the links he has to Barca they are kidding themselves and are incredibly naive..

The owners know he is going to jump Ship at some point, so quite rightly they are protecting their investment..

We all know he's going to go eventually but just not next season. According to you he's going THIS summer which doesn't make sense.

Great news.

Protects the club by underpinning the value of the player should one of the big boys come knocking, puts the player where he should be in our pay hierarchy, and sends a nice message out into the market regarding squad harmony and very good players buying in to the Klopp plan (not that that last bit is needed for players with half a brain, but, you know....)

Read an old article today that said Benitez recommended him to Comolli in the first place. It wasn't a scouting find.

Yep, excellent news all around. As Klopp said, you dont sell your best players. Hopefully we can continue to build and develop a squad capable of both CL football and challenging for the title.

It's very hard to make those claims anyway. Everyone knows everything. There isn't any such thing as totally unknown players.

He was playing on loan for Espanyol when we signed him from Inter. Suarez was playing for Ajax.

That's not "unearthing" or finding anything. Scouting for us is about availability, quality, suitability and price, of already fairly well-known players in football, and then making a decision about how much effort and money and intent we put into the pursuit of that player.

Dele Alli wasn't a scouting find either. We were interested. We met him. Spurs just moved with more determination and alacrity.

It could be argued that we need to be far more aggressive and knowledgeable in our pursuit of South American or Portuguese talent, where there seems to be a more well-trodden path that almost precludes us from the conversation, but that's a different conversation too.

I'm pleased he's here obviously, but I'm not sure why he needed a new contract with 3.5yrs remaining on his current one with no release clauses in?

18months into his current long term deal? Fair fucking play. Might aswell ask for another one at the end of the season too.
