My thing is why are we even linked to defenders when we have the likes of Kelly, Wilson and Darby who do a decent job when given an opportunity.

We need attacking talent and a decent CM.

I like him, I think he could help revert us back to a solid, flat back four. As said, he's not brilliant but he's steady and is first and foremost, a defender. Unlike the other clown.

Good utility player for the squad, as for not being as good as Agger or Carra in 12 months time Id be surprised if either one was first choice

Darby is shit Roland.

He'd improve us now and later when we get better he would be a good backup player. Would be a decent transfer if we got him cheapish.

If this is proof that Real and Juve really are battling it out for Johnson (at around 25m euros!!!) then I'm happy.

If its a straight swap for Johnson id be delighted!!!

Corluka is certainly not 'slow'

Yeah, he is.

He looks a pretty decent player and I was quite surprised City got rid of him at the time.

That said, he seems to have lost his place at both clubs he's been at as they've improved. That's a little worrying, is it not?

It is a bit yes but such is the state of our defense that I'm still happy to take him. I also fully expect him to suffer the same fate at Liverpool too.

BTW I didn't realize he is 193cm tall, would certainly bring much needed aerial power to our team. And he's only 24yo, I was sure he was nearing 30.

When he was at City he seemed to organise them and he supported their attacking play. He can pass which is something of a rarity with us. He was defo MoTM when we played them over Christmas a few years ago and it was 0-0. I was well pissed off when Spurs bought him - wondered why we hadn't even tried.

Another issue to consider is that we have a similar tall RB / CB in Kelly.

If Kelly is considered good enough to be here in the long-term, we should really invest in him now, which means giving him opportunities to play.

A team in turmoil like ours isn't the perfect place for a youngster to play week in week out. The pressure is huge and it might irreversibly affect his confidence. IMO he should play more but still shouldn't be our first choice. Corluka's signing might actually improve Kelly's chances as that would probably mean we are selling Johnson who has so far been an automatic starter when fit.

Is that because our right back is fucking wank?
[/quote]
Our right back is pretty wank alright when playing in a team that's defensive-minded and almost 100 % relying on him to deliver the goods down our right side because every other winger we've got can't leave a man stranded.

When a new manager comes in, hopefully one with an optimistic and attacking-minded approach, he'll be one of the most important players in the team.

For me, Glen Johnson is a formidable player, but as goes with a fair deal of his teammates at this day and age, we are NOT playing to his strengths.

Yeah, and the other teams aren't helping either - by purposefully running at him when they know he's a load of shit.
