Deserves some praise imo.
Isn't afraid to get stuck in, reads the game well, is great in the air and very strong.
If he continues like this Agger and Skrtel should start worrying.

Yep, good performance. He's never going to look elegant, but he has a Lawro-like readiness to make well-judged interventions and he also looks good going up for corners.

Perhaps Andy is attributing some blame to Coates as he was facing the ball. Enrique was running towards our goal.

Saying that, I'm not exonerating Enrique from the blame in anyway way. Pathetic decision making and it cost us a goal.

He was ahead of Enrique and coming across the goal. If he had called it and cleared it as a CB should 4 yards from goal Enrique should have been cleaned out.

It was more Enriques fault once he got there obviously but Coates could have just cleared it.
He does have a mistake in him, but hes young and will get better and better.

There's a lot to like about Coates, he's a powerful lad and his reading of the game is very good. He's decent on the ball and a threat from set pieces too.

Obviously needs to improve in certain aspects but the signs are good.

The first goal last night could be blamed on Enrique, Coates or Jones. The view from behind the goal imo shows both defenders shielding the ball back to Jones and waiting for him to dive on it, which he didnt.

There is no way a CB should be allowing a LB to take the ball across the front of goal in the six yard box.
Coates should have taken the ball and cleaned it AWAY from goal.

Im not excusing Enrique who was shambolic but a top CB should clear that and all else in their path and not wait to see what happens.

Thought he was shite on the 3rd goal aswell. Either he has to come charging out or stay closer to the line. The half arsed attempt made it easy to chip him.
