Well is he?

I don't think so. Sure he's made some mistakes but so have others.

I really want us to give him another shot. I just like the fact that he's a big strong no nonsense defender.
Also I think we can do with someone with his height advantage in the box.

Will he still be here next season?

I've never thought of him as being shit. I'd put most of his mistakes down to inexperience. He did well today. He's done well for us on other occasions.

And he scored a fucking cracker of a goal for us.

A bit of proper coaching and I think we can make something of him. He's young. It's unfair to be too harsh on him.

Exactly, I find it a bit strange that Brendan has pretty much dismissed him.

I bet when he's at his absolute best he'll be terrifying to play against, he's a beast. He's a bit gauche at the moment but he needs a run of games. When Larry Lloyd got in the side Shanks told him 'I don't care if you make mistakes, you'll keep playing,' and Coates needs that kind of chance. He's a good investment, he's here and he needs the chance to prove himself, so we can spend on other areas of the team.

He has to play though. Another year on the bench wont improve him at all.
Think he's a decent player that could become a good but he lacks agression.

It's easy to forget he's only 22 years old (turning 23). Still has 3 years on his contract. Do we really have to rush to flog him off? As mentioned by many, he needs games, especially for his development and for a player of his age. Wouldn't mind loaning him out for a season to an EPL team.

The only thing going against him (for me) is his lack of speed, but as we all know from one of our legends that can be compensated for by the mind. Which happens to be one of the rarer traits in football players. Hope he has a good football brain.

You can see straight away how much more comfortable he is on the ball when under a bit of pressure, as opposed to Wisdom who's looked really nervous with the ball every time I've seen him this season, apart from his debut game in Europe, but that game seems to be the exception to the rule, unfortunately.

Coates will definitely leave if he's not guaranteed to at the very least be 3rd choice, but that might not even be enough. He's represented his country many times and he's at an age where he really needs games. He'll want to be 1st choice for the world cup too.

Big decision for Brendan.

I'd like to see us keep him. We will need to sign one top centreback this summer. I'd like to see us start next season with a new top signing, Agger, Wisdom, Kelly and Coates as our options.

I don't see any benefit in him staying at the club next season if he's not going to get much of a chance.

Send him on loan or sell him.

Shame. Looked like he had promise when he first joined.

No pace, poor positional sense and clumsy.

That said he was highly rated in South America, worth sending him to a year out loan to team like west Brom where every mistake isn't under the microscope and see if be can perform.

Id like to see more of him, but with Rodgers saying Skrtel aint for sale, and Agger set to stay and another cb, hopefully Toby, coming in, his chances are slim, loan or sell Skrtel and use him as third choice for me.

I can't make my mind up.

He seems to passive for a centre back -just once I'd line to see him try and break an opposing forward in two rather than seemingly just state at them vacantly.

I'm not really fussed if he stays or goes - he's had so little impact it won't really matter.

It's obvious Skittles is out of favour/on the way out.

Keep the big lad.

He hath much potential.

Probably.
