Sky Sports News understands Liverpool are closing in on the signing of Juventus midfielder Christian Poulsen.

Juve are open to the sale of the Denmark international and a number of sides have been linked with an interest in his services.

Premier League duo Fulham and Everton are among those clubs said to be admirers of the 29-year-old.

But it is believed that Rafa Benitez's Liverpool are in pole position to secure Poulsen's signature.

It is speculated that the Reds' move for Poulsen could be linked with Xabi Alonso's uncertain future, amid interest from Real Madrid.

Please please please be a smoke screen, this would be the shittest transfer ever. Everton and Fulham are after him aswell, thats all the info we need.

How odd? Everyone seemed sure Aquilani was the replacement.
Mebbe he failed the medical and Rafa's panicing?

29?? I can't believe we'll be signing a 29 year old unless he's cheap enough to come as cover for the frail Aquilani.

A Scandinavian!

I like what I saw of him when he was at Schalke. IMO, he's more a 'Mascherano-type' of player. If he does come, I don't think its as a direct replacement for Alonso. At a decent price, he'll be a good signing.

I'm a bit bemused, but isn't he only a year older than Xabi?

Hopefully he's cover, and maybe we're covering all angles with speculation over both Lucas and Masher.

Apparently he was born in 1980. I'm surprised.

Was this the lad who played for Sevilla? He looked good in their high tempo style under Ramos. Maybe a move here could be good for the lad.

Yeah, I think he's 29. If memory serves, he did so badly at Juve that he lost his place in the team (including to Sissoko).

Can anyone confirm this?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO-OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH!

What a crock of shit. He's signed down for a fair while, he shouldve been told to suck it up and keep on playing if we couldn't bring in a classy replacement.

maybe we're going for a cheap Xabi replacement to keep funds back for Silva+striker?

I really liked him at seville too but def not an alonso type player at all, he's as you say a masher type player and no replacement for Xabi.

Well said mate.

The vital part here is that he has got to come on cheap otherwise we should stay well clear.

He's not as big a physical presence or as quick as Masher and he doesn't pass and read the game as well as Alonso.

He's better than both in the air and is probably as strong in his tackles.

Overall I'd be very surprised to see this transfer but as a cheap back-up option for Masher he'd be decent I reckon. NEVER as a straight Alonso-replacement.

I won't believe for one minute that's our intention.
