So we've seen BR's 4-3-3. And so far, Man City game apart, we ain't very good at it. Now that's understandable given we've only been playing it for relatively few matches, but I was wondering if anyone thinks we could or should play another formation/ style. Is BR's philosophy slavishly focused on a 4-3-3 formation, or has he got something else in the locker? When he came he said he would play a game that matched the personnel and evolve the style of play with the blend of playing staff. He doesn't seem to have listened to his own advice...

Thoughts?

Molby was very incisive when discussing this recently. He said the problem currently had little to do with passing (although he acknowledged it often could be more rapid and brave). It was much more about positioning and movement. He noted that losing the ball wasn't as relevant as where you are when you lose it, and currently many LFC players are struggling with their positional play rather than their passing play. Once they improve on that the formation will work much more effectively. That all seemed to make sense. As for changing the system, from what little I saw of Swansea last season they seemed to be much more flexible and fluid than the myth suggests. It's surely all about working as a team of like-minded players; once they all understand each other they can adapt and invent as a unit.

I like that idea. It seemed to me that Arsenal were doing all the things that we'd like to be doing last week, with quick clever passing and someone always seemingly in space. I kind of felt from a relatively early stage that we weren't ready to play them at that game. It was like having a duel with Zorro and at the bit when you get to choose the weapons you choose swords rather than pistols.

I think the fact that only Gerrard & Suarez having played together regularly, from the 6 that make up midfield and forwards, is partly the issue. It would be a major surprise to see it all come together within a few weeks.

Gerrard & suarez being out of form compound the problem - as does Lucas being injured.

Allen seems to have slotted in so well probably because he knows the system.

Most in form and most familiar with the Managers tactics I'd imagine.

The thing is, we were actually beating Arsenal at their game for large portions of the game.
They resorted to a lot of long balls due to our pressing and we also got to their final third with some good crisp passing.
They completely destroyed us with their counter attacking and we were so unbelievably vulnerable in those situations.
Swansea used to be vulnerable to counter attacks too.
Problem right now for us is that we don't seem to have a clue what to do once we get to the final third, and with Rodger's system (where we're likely to ship in more goals than, say, Rafa's system), being shit in front of goal's only going to make us look much shitter than we actually are.
The front 5, or 6 even (plus fullbacks, minus the covering midfielder(s)), will have to improve like crazy in the danger area if the Rodgers system is to work.
