Looks fun...

Imagine the whole kop with safe standing.. Hopefully one day, at least part of it, it will be considered.

I'm ambivalent about that. But I hate that stupid 'stand up with your backs to the action' fashion that more and more fans are doing these days. If I wanted to not look at the game I'd avoid buying a ticket.

I'd love safe standing to be allowed, I can't see it happening for a very long time though.

I don't see why it can't be introduced (relatively) quickly if it's deemed safe and passes all these tests. Would be be great to have it on the kop

As far as I know there would be three basic options, or combination of options, as far as making standing possible at what are nominally all-seater stadia: bolt-on seats, fold-away seats or German-style rail seats. The third seems the easiest and neatest for Anfield, but you'd probably also need to incorporate surge-resistant barriers. But I get frustrated when the practicalities are discussed because they all seem to focus on how to incorporate safe standing, whereas surely the more pertinent practical issue is how to also incorporate safe and quick evacuation. That's certainly the issue that makes me feel a cold shiver down the spine whenever I think about the topic. I've seen loads on how to deal with the seats, but hardly anything on how to deal with evacuation.

The Taylor Report noted that there's nothing intrinsically dangerous about standing in a stadium, but it also noted that it's never possible to completely rule out standing, and swaying, leading to problems that could be dangerous. Maybe it's a generational thing, or just my irrational and over-emotional perspective, but, for me, even with stadia that are better-built, sturdier and more regularly inspected than ever before, I'd need absolutely ineluctable evidence that they were also equipped to ensure that there could be no possibility whatsoever of constriction and obstruction at the front (or, for that matter, any other part) of the terrace. I guess that's possible, but I've not personally encountered anything that is currently in use.

With barriers being removed between the stand and the pitch, allowing people to evacuate onto the pitch, in this problem not solved?

Maybe, maybe not. I don't know what the league and UEFA regulations are/would be. Commercially there would presumably still be electronic boards and other potential impediments. I don't know, if I saw a standing crowd I think I wouldn't be able to look at the front without seeing ghosts. Maybe it'll take a generation to move on as far as that proposal is concerned.

Part of the safe standing set up is that they have anti surge barriers in every row

The seats in front, the frame they are attached to act as the anti surge barrier for those behind..

It's also one person to one safe standing seat, so it's near impossible to be anywhere near the dangers we had in the 80's

Given every row has these it elimanates the need for anti surge barriers of the old school nature, we where in essence proven to be more trouble than they where worth..

Seating, with people standing up is far more dangerous than safe standing imho..

So do you go to your 'seat' in a safe standing set up, or is it just a matter of finding a space?

It won't happen ever at Anfield because of the HJC, which is a pity.

Hillsborough was a death trap. Safe standing is as described. I'd much prefer to stand than sit to watch the match.

Are they against safe standing? I was always under the assumption that they weren't directly opposed to it?
