This. Is. Passion. 😱

The Torcida celebrate 100 years since their club was formed. They introduced the whole tifo scene to the country, are the oldest supporters group in Europe and pioneered the use of flares at matches decades ago because so many Splicani were (and still are) merchant sailors.

Football culture innovators and this Spalato wide mass bakljada shows they still have got it - and going by this, will never lose it!

That looks amazing. And dangerous.

But mostly just beautiful. Nice find, Roopy. I like it.

(Going to share it on Facebook. Hope you don't mind.)

Reminds me a bit of the famous Old Trafford atmosphere. They are said to have the most passionate fans in the world

Ah yes the theatre of dreams. Named as such due to the fact everyone seems to be asleep

The Hayduks were pirates who used to rape and pillage along the coast of Croatia.

Hence the name Hayduk Split.

Not many people know that. :-[

Indeed. They came from Yorkshire and were always saying "hey, duck" as they looted and leched their way along the Adriatic.

I learned Serbo-Croat before a holiday in Yugoslavia many years ago. However, I found that my imperfect command of the language got me into more trouble than it was worth! ;D

Haha. You should just have said "Lady Gaga" and they'd have been all smiles.

(Incidentally they played the "Telephone" video at the gym today. You really should join one, you know. 😉)

In the holiday hotel, they had a gloomy young lady going round with a coffee trolley at breakfast. She asked me if I wanted a coffee, and I replied "thank you" in Serbo-Croat - which I think was "hlava." She scowled and went off pushing the trolley. I realised that, as in many languages, "thank you" means "no thanks." So I called her back and explained that I would actually like a coffee please.

"But you said you didn't want one!" she replied.
"You misunderstood me, I really would like a coffee," I said.
"You definitely said you didn't want a coffee!" she retorted.

This turned into a protracted argument. The easy way out of the problem, just giving me a coffee, didn't seem to enter her head!!

I admit that I am no connoisseur of rock and pop videos, but as far as I am concerned, the "Telephone" video is the all-time best ever pop video! I sometimes call it up on my TV box when I need cheering up. Poor Beyoncé may have wanted to be in it, but I feel she is rather sidelined!!

Ah, now when it comes to pop videos you just said the magic word, namely "Beyonce". I'll see your "Telephone" and raise you "All The Single Ladies". 8)
