136 games for spain and 457 for real madrid.

unbelievable personal record and still only 31? , I don't think any player in the modern game can match his achievements...

Maldini;s club record is better but didnt win anything with Italy!

The fact that a keeper as good as Pepe Reina has so few caps for Spain tells its own story about Casillas' quality.

Video has emerged via Spanish TV station Cuatro and their eagle eyed cameras showing Spain goalkeeper Iker Casillas asking the official behind his goal to end the the Euro 2012 final early.

With Spain cruising at 4-0 and Italy down to 10 men following the injury to substitute Thiago Motta, Casillas called on the fifth official behind his goal to finish the match once it reached the end of the 90 minutes.

Casillas became the first international player to rack up 100 international wins on Sunday night but clearly hadn’t forgotten how to be a gentleman.

The Real Madrid keeper called for a quick end to the encounter at the end of the three minutes injury-time and almost immediately the final whistle went.

As Brooks Peck of Dirty Tackle points out: “It was a small thing and ended up being irrelevant, but the point here is the thought and that seems to be one of sportsmanship. So, respect for San Iker.”

I like the hand wave gesture at Balotelli when he ballooned one over from distance in the first half. It really wound the idiot up.

I think xavi maybe the only one, but he's a good call. One more Champ league and one more league title. However, Casillas has time on his side.
Xavi's only a year older though. Casillas is undoubtedly a fantastic keeper but I was just making the point that his honours list has already been surpassed.

... and he doesn't like Mourinho ... supposedly. Legendary!

Ahead of Euro 2012, rumours had been rife over strained relationships in the Spain camp due to the rivalry between Real Madrid and Barcelona, and at one stage Vicente del Bosque openly acknowledged that there were issues between Gerard Pique and Sergio Ramos.

Xavi's father has now revealed that the problems in the national camp were serious, and that Spain were able to successfully defend their European Championship crown was down to the diplomatic efforts of Casillas and Xavi.

Mourinho had said in March that he had "no problems" with Casillas as speculation of a fall-out raged, but Joaquin Hernandez told COM Radio: "Iker had many problems with Mourinho because Xavi and Iker didn't want to end their friendship. The problems came to light and everyone knows about it.

"Had it not been for Iker Casillas, Xavi and Del Bosque, the national team would never have achieved what they have. It has been very complicated at times because of the Clasicos.

"Friendships between players were about to end. There were rows. There were issues with Arbeloa, Xabi Alonso and Sergio Ramos and how they behaved towards their team-mates. The behaviour of some players was inappropriate. Luckily, Iker and Xavi intervened."

Hernandez also responded to the suggestions his son had looked tired during Euro 2012.

"Xavi has played 81 games this season," he said. "It's a brutal schedule, and involves travelling all around the world, but he was fine. It's said that he wasn't in a good state physically, but that's not true."
