Hansern

Thinks he owns the place

He has been excellent in the 3 league games he's now started on the trot.
I'm starting to think it could be a good idea to give him a new one year contract. If he maintains this level he should be starting week in and week out.
Yesterday we fielded the most experienced side during Rodgers tenure and I think it showed.

Imho both Coates and Skrtel could leave this summer. Which means keeping Carra on for one more year would be a good idea.

Thoughts?

A one-year rolling contract that allows for him to coach as well as play would be good, I think. I wouldn't expect him to play many games next season, but it would be good to keep him here and assimilate him within the coaching staff.

I'm not so sure that the Skrtel-Agger partnership is quite as bad as is being made out at the moment - last year the general opinion was that it was the foundation from which to build out from - but it looks like we're going to go shopping for a new CB in the summer no matter what. I'm assuming that whoever we buy will either be a first teamer or someone that is expected to challenge for a first team place, which puts Carra in a difficult position given that he wants to play.

Carra has been good in the last few games and it's clear that we're missing an organizer at the back, but rather than look to the past we should be looking to the future. I'd offer Carra a contract on a reduced wage as a squad player with a view of transitioning into coaching at the club. Or something along those lines. If he still wants to play then perhaps the best solution all round is if he moves on.

His vocal organisation has already made our midfield improve ten fold over the last couple of games.
No doubt the knives will be out again once he's made his first mistake though.

We need to buy a new starting CB imho.
I'd love to sign Howedes this summer, and he's got 1 year left on his contract.

I wanted Kirchoff but Bayern has signed a pre contract with him.

We do need to sign another CB, but we also need to look at why the Skrtel, Agger partnership has deteriorated so quickly. Why were they so good under Clarke and Dalglish and so poor under Rodgers?

We can only speculate, but Rodgers has to be shown to be the man to fix problems like this.

Absolutely delighted for Carra. Has been great for three games running now.

They weren't so good under Kenny. People kept repeating '3rd best defence in the league' as if it means something when you're still conceding more than a goal a game on average. And the reason why they appeared to be good was simply our midfield was static when we had the ball so already in position to defend, which is different this year.

And Hansern there's no way we offload Skrtel now - we gave him his big money contract after one good season because 'you have to keep your best players'. We're stuck with him too now.

This, this, this.

I dont think so mate. Imho he'll want to move on if we dont get CL footy. Zenit or something would be my guess.

Honestly, we're going forward more now, which does guarantee you will possibly concede more goals than under Kenny.

Yep, lets bring in Ter Stegen and Howedes, that would suit me down to the ground!

Carra has made it clear he won't be satisfied on the bench, and that he'd go play elsewhere should it be the case.
Unless Rodgers is planning on having him as first choice CB next season, which is doubtful, he'll be off.
Good luck to him.

He hasnt been guaranteed first team football for a long time and has threatened to walk before, yet he's still here, once again playing a part and doing well. I think the club probably need to show him theres a future for him beyond playing. Everything else I'd take with a pinch of salt, can't say I blame him for getting vocal, given we've shipped goals all season, but he loves the club.

Carra is no long term solution and shouldn't be given a new contract unless he takes a pay cut.

In fact the real reason you don't want him given another contract is because he keeps proving you fucking wrong!!!

Good job Utd never gave those contracts to Scholes and Giggs eh?

Carra has been good, we need this sort of leadership and character. He shouldn't be first choice but he should play enough league and cup games to satisfy his playing needs. We also need to buy a new CB, one who hopefully will listen and learn from Carra.

One year deals on reasonable money.

Not three years for 120k a week like we've just seen Carra not earn. If he's staying it has to be on less than half of that, and we go year to year

Isn't Carra on over £100k a year, which was one of Purslow's bizarre decisions.

He should defo stay, just not on those kinda of wages, would he accept a pay cut of say 50%

Didn't prove me wrong last season. Want a list of all his fuck ups?

722 games for Liverpool FC. Yeah but he's shite.

A list of his fuck ups? You're more obsessed than a Utd fan about us. You keeping a log of Agger's fuck ups too?

The thing you and other Carra knockers are missing here, is the influence he has on players. His experience is massive and his work ethic is second to none. As you've been told many times, your persistent (and boring) knocking of an LFC legend so that you can show yourself to be "right" is offensive and does you no credit.

Edit.

He's not a fashionable player, he's not young and full of potential, he isn't a classy player with swagger in his step and silky passing, unfortunately he's just a boring plain old good defender, so he's shit.
