Campaign for turnips (or swedes depending where you're from)

As a child I associated Halloween with one thing in particular. The hollowing out of the Halloween turnip. More than that, the smell of turnip being roasted gently by the candle within. We're being Americanised with these bloody pumpkins. Are they part of our Halloween heritage? I say nay.

I ask all of you. For the sake of your heritage and culture, hollow yourself out a turnip tomorrow. Not only are they cheaper than their big brash American bastard cousins, but they're ours. We've always grown turnips on the field of Ireland and Britain, let us cherish this slightly ugly vegetable by treating it with the respect it deserves. Hang out a turnip this year. Are you with me?
