Former Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry has urged the current owners to “stay strong” and “stick to their principles” following a disappointing season at Anfield.

Tuesday’s 1-0 defeat at Hull effectively snuffed out any remaining hope of securing a Champions League spot and the Reds have also endured a third successive trophyless campaign.

Boss Brendan Rodgers has found himself underfire but Parry says Fenway Sports Group shouldn’t make any knee-jerk reactions.

“You have to stay strong,” said Parry, speaking at The Sporting Directors’ Summit in Manchester.

“You’ve got to stick to your principles and not be blown this way and that.

“By last season’s standards, this season’s been a little bit disappointing.

“Then again, two domestic cup semi-finals and still technically in contention for a Champions League place is not a million miles away.”

On Rodgers’ position, Parry added: “You don’t go from zero to hero overnight and you don’t go from hero to zero overnight.

“But at a club like Liverpool, the weight of expectation, from the fans and the ownership in terms of delivering and winning trophies, is very high.”
