No surprise like but.....

Martin Broughton is leaving to become the chairman of a new firm called Sports Investment Partners.

The company will be run by Mr Broughton's son Michael and will plough hundreds of millions of pounds into sport-related businesses.

"The fact that Broughton plans to step down as chairman of Liverpool after a short transition period (possibly of as little as several weeks) will surprise few people," Kleinman said.

"However, the details of his involvement in his next major venture will be of interest to the City and beyond."

Very cryptic.

He did a fantastic job, I was impressed with him from the minute he began dealing with us.

TBF the man's been straight as an arrow about this, just as he was about being a Chelsea fan. Where he's kept schtumm about anything there was good reason for it, as those two chancers who used to own LFC found out to their cost (literally). I wish the man well, and I hope he comes back to Anfield a time or two and gets a great reception.

and it answers the question as to why he was interested in the job at LFC in the first place.

Well I'm sure we paid him an exorbitant amount of money as well. But, to be fair, probably no more than Torres has picked up this season for doing fuck all. And Broughton did a brilliant job of (hopefully) saving the club for years to come. So good luck Martin for whatever you do next...

I can't believe I'm this disappointed by his departure, but I am.

We've finally found a competent chairman after yonks and he leaves.

He's acted with great professionalism throughout at a time when we desperately needed it.

I wish him well in his next venture.

We paid him a wage, & RBS told him he had a 500k bonus if he sold the club within a year. That money was paid by them, they also wrote off huge amounts to push through the NESV sale.

Their part in this was at least as important as broughtons.

As for him, I'll remember him well & wish the best for him, bar his team beating ours, obv.

Great news, only one of the "Four Horsemen Of The Apocalypse" remaining!!

I'm confused now - is that Carra or Purslow.

I was hoping my little bit of work was not wasted, I can rest easy in my bed now (which I am about to do)

You've earned that bed now Vlad, like a marathon runner who just crossed the line, you've earned this rest

If you look at the way Broughton began to refer to "our club" etc.I think this thing got pretty personal for him as time went on.

Welcome back BTW.

Broughton was only ever going to be short-term.

He served us well and in doing so, seems to have set himself up perfectly as some sort of 'sports business messiah' which gives him a platform for this new venture.

Everyone's a winner. Thanks Martin, and all the best.

Yup, he had a job to do and did it professionally, impartially and took no shit, like most of us thought he would do
I would like to think that he views the club a little more more fondly and understands things more than he did before the journey.
It would be great if he wrote a book about it all

regards

MARTIN Broughton, the Liverpool FC chairman who brokered the deal to sell the troubled club to the owners of the Boston Red Sox last month, was back where he feels most comfortable this week. Broughton was spotted walking out of Stamford Bridge after watching his beloved Chelsea beat Spartak Moscow. But Broughton, who will ease himself out of Liverpool once the new owners are fully ensconced, has a diplomatic issue to sort out before the weekend when Chelsea visit Liverpool.

Last season, the wily businessman, who is also British Airways chairman, absented himself from the corresponding fixture when Chelsea needed to win to come close to tying up the Premiership. But this time Broughton can’t bring himself to stay away. The Capitalist understands that he is intent on travelling to Anfield for the Sunday afternoon fixture but he will be keeping a “low profileâ€. No singing Blue is the Colour for the Liverpool chairman then.

This.

I'm sure there were some sceptics at the time of his appointment, but I don't think anyone can have any sort of serious grumblings at the way he has treated his temporary role with us. A gent in the boardroom and out of it seems, and I wish him well in his new venture.

It was always my stated intention to stand down once the sale was completed and I am happy that the club is now in good hands.

This has been one of the most memorable experiences of my working life and I would like to wish Liverpool and its supporters every success for the future.

The last seven months have been a pleasure and a privilege for me to serve this fantastic sporting institution.

Everybody associated with the club can now look forward to an exciting future with the right owners and the club on a secure financial footing.

I am proud to have been your Chairman during this turbulent time and would like to place on record my thanks to all of you, for the support you gave me, Christian Purslow, Ian Ayre and all the staff during this period.

Liverpool FC will always hold a special place in my heart as a result of the relationships I have forged over these past months.
