Haven't read the book but this quote sums up why regardless of eventual achievements I'm happy we got Klopp.

"Klopp told the FSG executives that football was ‘more than a system,’ that it was ‘also, rain, tackles flying in, the noise in the stadium’. Most of all, he said, the Anfield crowd has to be ‘activated’ by the style of performance, to spur on the team and vice versa in a self-amplifying cycle of exuberance."

This is why Mourinho is dividing the fans so much at Utd (and I guess why Rafa divided ours) - he doesn't care if the supporters enjoy the team - results are everything.

I liked Rafa and we did play some good football under him - but he didn't create the same bond between the supporters and the team that Klopp seems to be doing.

I'm a believer, now for some trophies!!!!

Benitez won a European Cup and an FA cup. And I seem to recall quite a lot of "self-amplifying cycle of exuberance" in Istanbul

Until Klopp wins something, I couldn't give a tin fuck what kind of bond he has created.

I could. The reason he's doing it is that it'll help us to win more. We had it during the glory days and I defo want those back.

Ah, well I'd obviously prefer a fire-up and united fanbase, but when I see a quote like

"regardless of eventual achievements I'm happy we got Klopp"

and then goes on to make a denigratory comparison between Benitez - who actually won trophies - and Klopp, who hasn't, I get a tad irritated.

Different strokes I guess...
I'm enjoying watching the team under Klopp, so regardless of results I'm happy we got him
Benitez was more successful - but who knows Klopp may overtake him - we can dream
I'm not denigrating Benitez, I said he divided the fans, thats a fact
I actually supported him right to the end and thought the criticism of him was OTT

I do enjoy watching the team more now though : )

There's no doubt that his last season was terrible, and it wasn't all down to the ownership issues.

I'm also delighted we have Klopp, and from an attacking perspective, the team is great to watch, but I still prefer winning to being entertained.

Actually I suppose comparing Mourinho and Benitez does look like a criticism
I didn't really mean it that way though - they're just both football pragmatists rather than romantics
I think Benitez was a good guy though - Mourinho is an ass-hat

If things keep improving hopefully we can have both!!

Yes, they do have some similarities when it comes to their football philosophy, but regardless of Liverpool loyalty, it's not much of a stretch to say that Benitez is the far superior human being.

I dont know why there is a need to take a "dig" at past managers when we praise Klopp. I noticed one of the poster's had an unnecessary pop at Rodger's tactics in the Danke Jurgen thread also.

I did not find any issue in the fanbase being energized in the CL semifinals against Chelsea under Rafa. Or when we hammered Juve in the first half or when we humiliated Madrid.

Same with Rodgers. At the 20th minute of that Arsenal game, if I had started a thread "Is Rodgers the best tacticians in Europe?", I am sure the poll would have been 95% or higher yes.

They all had their flaws but they tried their best to deliver us the league. I was critical of them in their final years but now that they have gone, why don't we just remember them for the good times they delivered.

Wouldn't directly disagree, but comparing managers' records and management styles isn't necessarily having a go at them. When comparisons are made it's in the nature of things that one of them will often look less impressive than the other.

I don't think you'll get a lot of appwowal of you start being twicky with your posts...

And when he does win something are we likely to see you say "thanks for the trophy, now fuck off"?
