Brendan wants Carra to continue

The club needs to try to regain a degree of the old continuity so it would help to keep Carra as a coach or player-coach and then bring him on as a potential successor. As for predicting what kind of coach he'd be by considering how he plays - sorry, but that's naive. Dour players can turn out to be very positive and clever coaches, and plenty of entertaining players have turned out to be cautious and defensive coaches. As a player you're limited or liberated by the body, as a coach you're limited or liberated by the mind, and Carra is a well-known student of the game who has made a point of analysing every manager and coach he's ever met. I suspect he'll be an exceptionally clever and flexible coach/manager. He'll also provide the managerial team with some much-needed drive and focus.

Ryan Nelson is still putting in a decent shift at QPR because he's playing regularly. He's not innately better than Carra.

Yes, me too. As well as the goal he also took a superb penalty before kissing the Liverpool badge. What more could fans wish for?

Funny that, I asked if Smicer was a legend or a hero in a thread a few years ago. About 90% answered that he was a hero.

Good performance today by the big man, despite being ruffled a fair bit and having zero protection from midfield, I thought him and Coates played quite well.

Lucas was fucking shambolic today. He did nothing good. I cannot think of a compliment for him today.

He and Allen were the same, we left gaping holes in the midfield and offered no kind of bridge between defense and attack, the only one who tried to was Shelvey.

Carra was good but Coates was all over the place imho

I don't think the system helps when the DM is supposed to drop into the middle, not at the minute, because Lucas is just letting attacks pass him by. Meanwhile the fullbacks are still trying to play in an advanced position leaving the centre backs stretched. How many times was Coates left chasing down the flanks because he'd had to come across?

Yeah, Lucas was horrendous today and didnt help the defence out at all.
My issue with Coates today is how easy he was brushed of the ball, and next to Carra he needs to be the dominating CB. He isnt and we were put under loads of pressure cause our central defence couldnt win a header to save our life.

carra is obv a legend. but i can't help feeling that rogers is playing him or bringing him on for random 10 min cameo appearances to ingratiate himself with powerful player cliques. surely it's best to give these 10 min cameo appearances (often in central midfield) to players like coady/sahin?

I'm sure it was to help Carra get the appearance count, but it also tends to be when we're winning, meaning he's bringing on Carra to close out the game. He's a great defender and rarely a liability so it makes sense.

It would be ideal for us if Carra stayed on as a coach (or player/coach to start with) but what matters is whether it is ideal for him. Not so sure of that.

He can't really play at the top level regularly any longer (though certainly still good enough as back up) but he could certainly do a job in the lower divisions, and why shouldn't he? If he still enjoys playing then it is his only chance. Once he has quit it is unlikely that he will be able to go back in a few years if he misses it.

Tranmere could do with him. But he's still useful here, he's a great pro and he probably has a very good influence on the younger players. And he ought to gradually be assimilated into the managerial/coaching set up.

Correct

Except the Tranmere bit. He's ours!

Oh I totally agree, but if the options are staying at Liverpool to coach and maybe make a few sub appearances here and there, or going to a lower down club and playing a decent amount of games while he still can, I can see why he would take the latter option.
