(Ryan's right, we need a post match thread)

A few thoughts

1) Thought the switch been Origi and Firmino to start the 2nd half caused Boro a lot of headaches, and gave us an upper hand, which we pretty much held the whole 2nd half.
2) Mane was fantastic - not MoTM - but created non-stop havoc for the Boro defense. On another day, he'd have had a hat trick.
3) Gini's ability to move the ball effortlessly throughout the midfield is key to our style of play ... He's a hard worker too, and eventually, the goals and assists will come as he makes very smart runs into the box regularly.
4) Lallana - I was getting pissed at him at the beginning as he was slowing the game down so much, but what can I say - he opened the scoring brilliantly and then helped end the game later on. He's performing at a high level - work rate, passing, goals/assists - week in, week out. An amazing turnaround from the player's early form with the club ...
5) Klavan is a solid defender. [NOT AN INSULT TO LUCAS] He should be our 3rd CB for league games.
6) Origi - 5 goals, 1 assist in 5 games ... Massive contribution from a 21 year old kid.
7) Firmino's best game in a while - got into dangerous positions more, far more confident with his dribbling, and I hope he stays more central as when he's there, the team works better.
8) Credit to both our FBs - who were solid in defense and attack.
9) Probably the right call from Klopp to drop Karius. He needs a break from the spotlight and the Sky punditry. Excellent response from Ming - solid, no mistakes and solid saves.

The last two games before last night were disappointing - we clearly missed an opportunity, with Chelsea, to distance ourselves from the pack. However, tonight's performance was excellent - and we were unlucky to only win 3-0 ... Great response to a frustration two weeks of footy.

Nicely summed up LTW - The clean sheet is a big plus. I'm loving how Lallana is finally getting the goals.

Agree with you on most of this and strongly about wijnaldum - we look much more fluid with him. Can just can't do the same job.

I'd like to see matip and klavan have a couple of games to see how klavan responds to his leadership. Lovren isn't a leader.

I can't understand why the Origi/Firmino switch has taken so long, it's been obvious for the last few games. Origi gets more joy down the flanks and it brings Firmino into the game alot more, suddenly our fluid, quick passing is back.

Overall, a much needed big performance ahead of the derby, Mignolet looked confident, which was reassuring.

I think Firmino looked frustrated for most of the game. Looked like he wasn't being provided with many chances.

Origi,Lallana and Wijnaldum were all class.

Milners workrate was unmatchable , he IS the model pro.

Henderson , im not sure about him, he just doesn't offer anything defensively or consistently enough when going forwards.

Sums up Henderson for me:

Henderson is having a superb season and was solid again last night, some of you will never warm to him. Modo what exactly do you expect him to do in that clip? Drop his shoulder and beat four midfielders? Drop the agenda mate, every damn match thread you have a pop, despite most of the time him playing well.

he's not had a superb season , he had a superb month , anything beyond that is you overreacting to modo @Mystic !

He is okay , I just think we can do better than him.

I just like to fuck with people. Don't take it seriously.
Henderson is good, he could be better. I've been saying it for a while.

It was more than a month, from the Spurs game until the last international break he was brilliant. He's still playing well now, obviously the whole team dropped a little the last few games, but he was solid again last night. I don't understand what more people expect from him, he's our deepest sitting midfielder, he's not going to be hitting double digits on the stats, but he passes very well, is a threat from range, covers lots of grounds, works his bollocks off, and makes us a better side. There are very few players around who we could get who would be an improvement on him.

On another note, I was really encouraged to see how Klopp changed our style in the second half, and how effective it was at winning us the game. He switched to a more direct approach to break down Middlesborough and it worked wonders, and the players felt at home with it right away. This kind of tactical manoeuvring could be vital for helping us break down tough opponents in future.

ill agree with you , his work rate is exceptional, he can pass well too , that ball for origis goal the other weekend a prime example . His tackling and reading of situations when defending isn't great and far too often I think he's culpable In dropping off far too much , leaving a gap in the middle of the park and inviting trouble . He is alright , I don't think he's good enough to captain this side and I still think that investing in a proper dm would offer better returns than continuing to play him in the half way house position he currently is

Very good point.

I've been annoyed at Klopp's seeming inability to change games. I hope he can do this when we're struggling to break a team down too.

I can't add anything to this discussion, everything that needed to be said has been said.
Just wish Klopp could have given TAA a little more time on the pitch. He looked lively and up for it.

What position was he playing when he came on? I thought he was a right back, but we was through the centre it seemed?

Karius
AA Matip Gomez Moreno
Stewart
Grujic Can
Ings Coutihno
Sturridge

One or two weak links there but this team should hold it's own in the league, nice to see we have a bit of strength in depth if we can get everyone fit.

It's not really an inability, his changes during the interval have always been really good, it's his willingness to change things during the game that can be frustrating.
