A bit of fun - name your best world XI

Courtois

Lahm
T.Silva
Kompany
Alves

Ronaldo
Yaya
Gerrard
Bale

Messi
Suarez

he's prob been the best mid this year in the epl, captain of england and few can compare to him in his current position. in the lineup he and yaya provide good balance. he has an arguable case to be up there, sure my red tinged glasses have had their impact. but instead of the odd snide comment, why don't you engage in the thread or ignore it.

there's not a lot of defendin in that center midfield hai

and zero spaniards.... the world champions

You said world 11 and you put in two players at central midfield from a league that got slaughtered in the Champions League again this season.

sure, but we don't have enough time to come up with a system ;-) trying to slot the best 11 in and hopefully they will turn it on!

haha watching your 11 would be like watching a game of basketball, great stuff but you wouldn't wish managing them on your worst enemy.

If I had free reign I'd probably go with something like:

Courtois
Lahm Kompany Silva Alba
Schweinsteiger Busquets Iniesta
Ronaldo Messi
Suarez

*I have a real dislike for Dani Alves that I can't explain.

Yours is prob better balanced, but I think is a shoot out mine would win (just).

I fucking hate when people say epl.

Anyroad,

Courtois

Lahm
T.Silva
Kompany
Alves

Ronaldo
Toure
Alonso
Bale

Messi
Suarez

Controversial but given Messi's somewhat indifferent form over the last few months I guess you can make a case for it. I think in the absence of of Messi I might go for someone like Robben or Aguero for a pure striker.

The midfield and defence I struggle with.

A couple of years ago you could name the Barca midfield but there are a few question marks there and bar Yaya this season I'm not sure there are too many completely standout candidates. You could probably make a pretty good case for about 10 players out there.

As for defence, it doesn't feel as though are many top defenders out there today. I'm not sure if that's down to ignorance on my part, attackers getting better or coaches now wanting different things from defenders. I think Kompany is a little overrated, Thiago Silva I only catch a couple times a year so not sure one way or the other which leaves future hopefuls like Varane. What do you guys think?

Yes, but who would come back and defend the corners? None of you have taken that into consideration.

There are many 'Premier Leagues' around the world and this forum has lots of international forum members. In Asia at least (and probably many other places) it is known and marketed as the EPL and many would not even consider writing it any other way, so no need to be so pedantic.

I knew why he said it, I just hate the term.

If I told someone to stop saying it, or attacked the poster, fair enough, but I didn't.

Or aren't I aloud to voice that on a public forum without being labeled pedantic?

Seems like a lot of the players who woulda made this list all got old at a similar time (Casillas, Buffon, Xavi, etc)

Kompany's not been all that this season, no way he's in the top team

Courtois
Lahm Ramos Benatia Felipe Luis
Yaya Alonso Silva
Bale Suarez Ronaldo

EPL has always niggled at me also, same as BPL, think the reason is because you could just say PL and everyone would know what you meant.

Its not worth complaining about, its just an observation like C/O says, little things irk us all.
