I shared on here earlier in the week that I was taking my ten year old lad to the Roma game for our first ever European game. What happened last night eclipsed anything we could have imagined possible and I'm not even talking principally about the result...
We got to Anfield at about 5pm and had to pick our tickets up from the King Harry. After that we went back to the ground with the intention of watching the coaches roll in before heading into the stadium. We decided to get some chips and sat down to eat them in the fan zone.
This was where we were approached by two ladies that worked for the club who asked if we were going to the game and then asked how old my son was.
Once we had this initial exchange, she asked if he would like to accompany the refereeing team at the beginning of the match and lead the teams out onto the pitch.
Initially I though it was a wind up but within fifteen minutes, we were whisked inside the stadium, he had a UEFA Respect kit on and we were being briefed on what was going to happen.
Fast forward to 7:35pm, I'm back in the Kop watching my son walk out of the tunnel to the strains of You'll Never Walk Alone to stand for the Champions League anthem with the teams and officials on the turf that would soon showcase one of the best performances in a semi-final the team has ever put in.
That's some bucket list shit ticked off right there.
Bit of a comedown being in work today.........
I bet he's the fucking King of the Playground.
