You guessed it.

Since losing 4-1 v Spurs at Wembley in Oct 2017, Liverpool have the best defensive record in the PL.
In that time, their goals scored & conceded is better than the average totals of PL champions.

Gomez was excellent tonight and forms a really really good partnership with VvD. Until proven otherwise that should be our CB pairing.
It's boss watching them.

We have Allison, VVD & Gomez all looking ridiculously self assured & confident, almost relaxed behind the rest of the side.

Seems like gomez does the running for VVD...problem with Lovren is that I see him as the character played by Everett McGill in Under Siege 2...to VVDs cool Stephen Segal

Lovren is that character ... can be brilliant but with moments of irrational judgement.

That's superb.

They say titles are won by a defence
The quote doesn’t quite sound right. But yeah, all the shit Klopp got about his tactics being shite when it comes to defending in England, and we’d already started that run without VVD (yes he’s made a massive difference, but still) and with the hapless keepers in goal.
We’ve now got a solid defence, as usual an amazing attack, and finally seem to have a making of a great midfield with Keita and hopefully Fabinho.

The full quote is something like, attackers win games, defences win titles.

I actually hate posts that say things like

If the league started at x or we have the best record from y.

The one that always annoyed me was if the league ran over a calendar year Weds he champions which happened a few times.

I really hope it'll be other fans posting stuff like that looking at us as champions sometime in the next 2/3 years.

It’s not about being fully satisfied with stats like that (not talking about your calendar year champs).
It’s about understanding and acknowledging the progress we’ve been making. It’s clear for anyone to see that we’ve been looking solid in defence in most games. Stats like that simply confirm it.

Of course but we've been heading in the right direction loads of times only to fall over.

Hopefully this time is different but City are still clear favourites with their depth.

It's sickening the options they have.

But we’re not talking about that. We’re talking about our defensive record improving. Nothing to do with our history, nothing to do with false dawn. We have the best centre back we’ve had for years. Our fullbacks are competent at defending and the best in attack we’ve had for decades maybe.
Our midfielders are doing a far better job at shielding the defence these days.
What are you arguing against?

Where was I arguing?

A lot has happened defensively since last October. Robertson has been integrated, Van Dijk brought in, TAA and Gomez have gained a lot more experience and Lovren has improved immensley. All this along with the introduction of Allison, the return to form and fitness of both, hopefully, Clyne and Matip and the integration of Fabinho makes me pretty confident that we will see the team concede fewer than 30 goals this season in the league. Does anyone know what we are paying to have the best defensive record this season?

Indeed, I watched them batter Huddersfield the other night and it is scary to think that they can sub off Silva and just put Sane on instead...

They have a very good squad it is true, but then so do we this time out.

I also would prefer that our stats read premier league title victory than best defense in the calendar year but nonetheless, we have massively improved. I don't know if we will win the league this year but I really hope we can put on a challenge and I think we will. I do have some hope residing in the fact that last night we were actually awarded a fairly soft Pen wereas last season we didn't get our fair dues... You never know maybe the luck has changed in our favour...

It's noticeable how extremely friendly Citys opening set of fixtures are but perhaps the good luck which clung to them last year and boosted them up will not appear at their door this year. Nobody managed to put any pressure on them last season... I reckon we can this.

Allison's kicking was ridiculously good last night. Insane how good it was and also how assured he is.

I must say, I wasn't all that excited by his sweeper-keeper credentials before we got him- give me someone who fucking saves the thing- I grumbled. But someone called his passing Alonso-esque last night, and it really is something to behold. He's like a quarterback launching pinpoint passes 70 odd yards at times. The game has changed when you're sitting there enjoying the keeper kicking it out.

Yeh, City's opening fixtures are a joke, they've basically got 18 points in the bag, after Arsenal they're playing this years three promoted sides and last years three promoted sides, they'll roll them over, and what I worry about is that they'll form that fear factor with other teams as if they're unbeatable again, which we had to break last year.

One thing which gives me hope is that stupid documentary they made. It's so clear from some of the clips in there just how scared of us Pep is, we seem to really get under his skin, we seem to get under the skin of the whole club it seems. If we stay close to them, I mean within three points, I'm convinced we'll start getting to them, he'll be looking over his shoulder stressing, silently raging everytime he seems Klopp at a presser laughing and joking not feeling the pressure, I can seriously see them cracking or Pep over tinkering in those situations.

Well I hope so anyway.
