Liverpool to move for Real Madrid star in summer after failing with January bid

By Marc Isaacs
Friday, February 11

Liverpool just missed out on making a late deadline move for Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema.
The Merseyside club have been strongly linked with a move for the French international who has failed to show his best form at the Bernabeu.
Reports in Spain suggest that Liverpool were determined to sign Benzema after Fernando Torres said he wanted to join Chelsea.
But the two club clubs did not have enough time to agree a move for the prolific forward.
Despite Liverpool making moves to sign Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll, the Reds are still expected to make a fresh move for Benzema at the end of the season as they look to assemble one of the best forward lines in Europe.

Benzema is class, no doubt there, but I'd rather we sign a LB, a DM, and some wingers

Haha from Torres for half a season, ngog and jovanovic to:

Suarez, Carroll and benzema?

You add a decent midfielder and some some defenders and we are on out waaaaaaaaaay

Is 1 in 3 prolific? Benzema annoys me....there, i said it! He's lost his place again at madrid now that adebayor is in. He only got his place in the first place because higuain is injured. He'll probably prove me wrong though!

I know what you mean about Benzema, but similar things were being said about Chamakh beforre he joined the Arse and he looks the biz for them now.

Maybe these Benzemas and Lavezzis were just backup plans for Carroll and Suarez? Now their agents are leaking our interest to keep their names out there. I wouldn't mind Benzema, I really like him actually, but we do have more pressing needs now.

Does chamakh look the biz for arsenal?
I would be in the "NO" camp on that one Fabio but you might have to ask nornirongooner to get a more acurate appraisal

i thought he'd been "meh" myself and why he's mainly on the bench. JJ just surprised me with his evaluation

You should see some of the cloggers he signs up in the xpert11!

HA!

This from Relegation Rafa, mind you. 😉

I haven't seen much of the Arse lately, so I might be out of date here. The times I have seen him play for them this season I thought he looked dangerous, a lot more so than some of the more pessimistic predictions I read before he arrived.

There's no comparison with Chamakh, who is purely a finisher. Benzema is a class all-round forward. Having said that, I'd be surprised if we signed him after signing Carroll, as they'd both be better off played at no9.

And we do have other priorities.

Although not a priority...I would rather Hulk or Benfica's Oscar Cardoza...even though he seems a bit of a cunt.

"Prolific"
My thoughts exactly. He might be a prolific wanker.

Cardozo is muck, old and we have a better, younger target man in Carroll. It's a non starter.

I don't get why we're being linked to so many strikers, I think we'll be strengthening other areas in the summer.

Am very happy with the Carroll signing and would look at Cardoza as a sub/stand in for him. Carroll is surely younger and by far the tastier long term bet...but 'better'? Still needs to prove it over more than six months, which I hope he will.

I Just feel that Cardoza would be a good option (albeit unproven in the EPL), especially if we are looking at having a few quality strikers at the club. Obviously would prefer Hulk over him, but not really feasible bearing in mind what he would cost to essentially be a back up.

I should let you know that I develop irrational dislikings towards players for very little reason. I understand he's got a good record, but whenever I've seen him play he's been nothing but a donkey with a powerful shot. I will never change my mind.

Same goes for Mario Gomez, Ibrahimovic and Felipe Caicedo.

Has Caicedo ever had a good game though?

Get Ashley Young who can play on the wing and through the middle as back up when necessary!

Fuck all these exotic foreign types that we can't afford as back up strikers when clearly we have more pressing positions to fill!

I hate Caicedo because he used to consistently score against me on footy manager. Him and Ismael Miller are both twats.

There's every reason to dislike Ibrahimovic. He's a flat track bully with bags of skill but bugger all bottle, who scores shedloads against weak teams but disappears when the going gets tough.

I don't for a moment believe we will ever sign Karim Benzema, nor do I consider him necessary to the cause, but he is just a little bit more than "a donkey with a powerful shot".

I take that as a reference to me? I was on about Oscar Cardozo. I like Benzema.

Yeah JJ, I can't stand Ibrahimovic because he has all the ability but goes missing for too often. He could score a hattrick every game for the rest of his career and I still won't rate him as a top player because I've made my mind up. Tongue in cheek of course before Zlatan discovers this thread.

Sorry, Halmeister, I got my head wrapped round a stupid person's arse.

But not in a gay way.

I only like to tongue Brainy Bastards.

He's struggled as a #9 for Real and they're incredibly reluctant to play him as one. I don't think that's his position.

I was reading a blog post discussing his predicament that suggested he is far better in a more withdawn role where he has a bit more time on the ball. So prerhaps he'd be better played out wide or in the classic withdrawn striker / trequartista role.
