Conte wants to sign five new players this summer, with most of them expected to follow him from Italy. Chelsea have spoken to AS Roma about their centre backs, Antonio Rudiger and Kostas Manolas, and the midfield player Radja Nainggolan, and are negotiating with Juventus over Stephan Lichtsteiner, the right back.

Benteke got a raw deal last season. He's a far better player than people think. In saying if he isn't in Klopp's plans (which he evidently isn't) then what's the point really...better off moving on for his sake as well.

A shame how it's turned out but what do you do. Hopefully we can get a good fee for him and he has success elsewhere...hopefully not at our expense mind

The funny thing is, Benteke was just as bad under Rodgers, who insisted on buying him. It's fair enough for Klopp to decide the player doesn't fit his system, but for Rodgers to spend a record amount on a player without a coherent plan how to use him is truly baffling.

It was a serious error of judgment all right, but I don't know if it was that baffling. My guess is Rodgers knew he was in the Last Chance saloon, panicked and went for the biggest name which seemed to be available. A number of posters on here offered the "best we're likely to get" argument in defence of the deal and I rather think that's what was in Rodgers' mind as well.
