Manchester City and Benayoun's former club West Ham have been monitoring his impact on Liverpool's hunt for honours over the past few months, while Atletico Madrid have been tracking him ever since his header stunned their city rivals at the Bernabeu at the end of February.

It is understood that, after just turning 29, he feels there is one more big pay day to come and that an offer of contract talks at Anfield would be enough to banish any thoughts of moving on.

Fight: Rafa Benitez

Benayoun is halfway through a four-year deal, and Benitez must decide whether to reward his improved form, and end uncertainty over his future, by presenting him with the long-term deal he is looking for.

Speaking on Israeli radio, Benayoun said: 'This has been the best season of my career. I have played a lot of games and scored some important goals, and I am very happy with that.

'At the moment, I am a Liverpool player, and unless something surprising happens, I will remain one. But after such a good season, I have had some offers from England and Spain. You have to give that some consideration, so there will probably be some discussions with Liverpool.

'I have had a great two years at Anfield and enjoyed every minute. I have long since accepted that, with one or two notable exceptions, there is no such thing as an automatic choice at Liverpool.

'Unless you are Steven Gerrard, you are going to sit out one or two games, but that is no problem. Stevie is exceptional, and the rest of us accept that.

'The good thing is, I have been playing more, and I hope it continues that way. To be honest, it could be Real Madrid knocking on my door, and I would still rather stay at Liverpool four more years.'

Would like him to stay - excellent squad player.

Get rid now and reinvest while he's most valuable?

Good servant to the club and maybe another season at his best, but maybe time to trade him in for a younger model.

The most we'll get from him is 5 mil. So no need to sell him. After all he doesn't complain much being on the bench.

Yossi has had a fantastic second half to the season proving a great asset to the squad and I also happen to think he demonstrated his value last season as well by weighing in with 10 goals in all competitions. He's never going to be good to be first choice, but unless we get a stupid offer for him, he's the type of squad player we should be looking to keep.

Despite his good finish to the season, i wouldn't be too disappointed to see him go.

I find that attitude baffling. He was probably our fourth most creative attacker last season - after Gerrard, Torres and Kuyt - so how can he not be worth a squad place? I would rather sell Babel, Riera, El Zhar, pretty much any of our other wide players, than sell Yossi.

Yossi Benayoun 8 0 0 1 9

Its 9 not 10, but 8 of them are in the Prem.

Well if you take into account that hopefully we'll be signing 2 attacking players this summer, then i personally think he might find the number of games he plays very limited.

He's a player that I'd be happy to see stay with us, but i wouldn't be concerned if he left either.

Yossi had a great second half to the season like everyone says but I have my doubts if he can continue to produce performnces like this week in week out, especially as he will probably have to spend even more time on the bench next season.
He is an excellent squad player but if a good offer came in for him in light of recent form then I would take it and use the funds to get that extra special polare we all crave (whoever he might be)

Yossi was a funking legend in the 2nd half of the season.

What kinda fool would dump him now, especially as he'd be an excellent option off the bench.

We need squad players and Benayoun has proven when he's needed he performed well. After all 4-5 mil is the most we'll get for him. I'd sell Reira ahead of him.

I meant 10 in all comps last season.

there was a good two or three month period towards the end of last season where Yossi was consistently our best player, he also scored some important goals.

selling him would be dizzy IMO

I would rather keep him, he is frustrating at times when he keeps hold of the ball that touch too long and he looks like a crackhead but he has been a brilliant squad player this past season. He didn't really get a look in earlier on in the season but his goal and form esp after Real Madrid kept us in the hunt he doesn't deserve to be sacked off just yet, and we should keep him n case the likes of Silva (whoever else we buy) don't bed in too well and we can trust Benny to step up off the bench

We most certainly dont need more squad players. What we need is one or two first class first team players that will enhance our starting eleven. The regular starters from last season that they replace then become next seasons squad players.

Call me what you want and as much as I was/am impressed with Yossi's form in the latter half of the season I am far from convinced that this will be his norm. Unfortunately I think he is more likely to revert to the sporadic player that we have seen for the previous season and a half. For this reason I believe that if we got an offer based on his current form 8-10m, then we should accept it and use the funds to get a first team starter.

Your first para.is fair enough but I strongly disagree with the second. There's zero reason that I can see to assume either that Yossi will revert to his previous form or that we'll be able to buy better than Yossi for the kind of money we could charge for him in the first place. Such reasoning reminds me uncomfortably of the time when GH junked Nico Anelka and bought Spit the Dog instead. No thanks.

Since we're missing out on Barry maybe he can play behind Torres more and drop Gerrard back in midfield, especially when we have 3 games in 7 days

I seem to recall that Yossi's best form came while filling in for gerrard in the "hole role" While he has done ok since on the right and left that is his best position.

I am hopeful that our big signing this summer, while give us a proper option on the left of the front three, will also have the capacity to fill the Gerrard role better than Yossi does.
If that happens then Yossi is probably left shadowing Dirk for the right side and I cannot believe that there isn't better than Yossi in that position for 8-10m.

Don't get me wrong I am not advocating that we get rid of him willy nilly. He fully deserved the plaudids that he recieved for the last couple of months of the season. However I think that unless he gets time in his best position, which is unlikely as Stevie is there, then he will struggle to hit those heights again.

Benayoun - I have had offers

Liverpool ace Yossi Benayoun has revealed he has received offers from clubs in England and Spain, but insists he is happy at Anfield.

The Israel international has enjoyed a memorable season, scoring nine goals in 42 appearances in all competitions to mark his most successful campaign.

That form has caught the eye of a number of clubs, who are hoping to take advantage of the fact that Benayoun is not guaranteed a place in Rafa Benitez's first team.

But the former West Ham player is adamant he does not want to leave Merseyside after two years and has indicated that he would welcome contract talks.

"This has been the best season of my career. I have played a lot of games and scored some important goals, and I am very happy with that," the attacking midfielder told Israeli radio.

Gerrard is not a Centre Mid anymore, and nor should we consider reverting him back into one. It would be a massive error to break up the Torres-Gerrard partnership, rebel.

Barcelona set to infuriate Rafa with Benayoun bid
442 Staff - 36 minutes ago

Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola will not be on Rafa Benitez's christmas card list this year having targeted a second Liverpool player in two weeks.

Benitez was furious at Guardiola when the Barcelona boss declared his interest in Javier Mascherano, seemingly unsettling the Argentine midfielder. Although Benitez has claimed that Mascherano is happy at Anfield, his agent Walter Tamer seemed less certain. When asked if Mascherano would be interested in a move to the Nou Camp Tamer replied, "of course".

Now, just days after that particular furore seems to have been resolved, reports in Israel suggest that Yossi Benayoun is the latest Liverpool player to be subject of an approach from the European champions.

According to sources close to Benayoun, senior figures at Barcelona have contacted Liverpool and enquired about his availability and an asking price.

Having enjoyed an impressive season, there is no doubt that interest in Benayoun will be high. Halfway through a four-year-deal, it is likely Benitez will have to reward his excellent form with an improved contract to end any uncertainty over his future.

With Manchester City, Atletico Madrid and Villareal also interested Benayoun will be considering his options. Speaking on Israeli radio last month, he commented, "This has been the best season of my career. I have played a lot of games and scored some important goals, and I am very happy with that.

At the moment, I am a Liverpool player, and unless something surprising happens, I will remain one. But after such a good season, I have had some offers from England and Spain. You have to give that some consideration, so there will probably be some discussions with Liverpool."

Every player has a price and if the fee is used to improve the team/squad then you wont hear a murmor from me. No room for sentiment in this game.

Funny how Barcelona, the best team in the world, are after him ...

If they offer us 10 mill plus, we should sell ... He's a great squad player but 10 mill?
