Rumours in the press that Villa are after Benitez.

Some comments from a Villa forum:

avfc89

I am not sure about Rafa.

AngelGabriel

He's better than Houllier

As long as he keeps quiet about Liverpool and doesn't say its okay to lose to them, then fantastic.

Mendi

I take on Rafa he is a good manager The Lying Rag reckon we after him.

Super-Villan

I've not really forgiven Rafa for the way he acted over Barry. I wonder if other Villa fans have.

briny_ear

His first trip to an away game at Anfield would be an exciting moment...

AVFC-Prideofbrum

Anyway, no thanks.

thetrees

The word out of B6 is that he stays, regardless of our fate.

Super-Villan

This is my biggest worry. And why I think pressure needs to be kept on the board to get rid of him. Whether we go up or stay down, in my opinion we can't risk GH being at the helm.

Kristien

seriously though, no one else think Joachim Low would be amazing at villa?

buzz off rafa.

jackbauer24

Rafa available? Great, sack Houllier and get him in.

Your Nan's available? Great, sack Houllier and get her in!!

There is NO-ONE I wouldn't replace Houllier with.

OnlyOne

I would love to see Rafa at Villa. Be a vast improvement over MON and Houllier.

I mentioned in the other thread he was fav for the Blackburn job, it's beginning to look like he'll get a job but was waiting to see (via his media campaign) if he had a hope at getting the Liverpool job.

He won't achieve at Villa. It's the wrong job for him. Villa is a dump, he's better than that shithole.

It's from the umentionable newspaper though, and he'll be linked with every uncertain or vacant manager position while he still lives here.

Seriously? You thought he actually *had* a chance of getting it?

As for him taking the Villa job, there would be pros and cons IMO. On the one hand GH unfortunately hasn't been a good fit for them (as I'm afraid I suspected all along) and Rafa would instantly tidy them up and make them harder to beat. On the other hand, don't they have a DOF? In which case appointing Rafa would turn into a car crash eventually. Blackburn would allow him (a) to live at home more easily and (b) to give Allardyce the metaphorical finger if he succeeds there.

I know he has no hope, but he's a deluded fuckwit who it seems was hoping to whip up some fan frenzy like he did when he screwed us over with his 5 year contract.

Oh give it a rest, ross...

if you think it's just some happy coincidence that Benitez has appeared on lots of different shows and stations saying how much he'd like to manage Liverpool again Neil, then you're dimmer than I thought.

Am I the only one who thinks all those comments from Benitez are very unrespectfull towards Kenny?

No.

Good. The little snippets about loving to manage us in the future, while Kenny is on a short term contract turned my stomach.

I wouldn't want him back at all. It would be like going out with your ex again, knowing from the start that it's not going to work out.
That ship has sailed.

Kenny all the way imho.

He's taken care to make complimentary remarks about the King and to say there isn't a vacancy currently. As long as the King is only a caretaker (and I too want him to be made permanent a.s.a.p.) some of you are making a mountain out of a molehill over this.

He shouldn't be making any comments at all.

Any excuse to slaughter Rafa. But Rebel is the mental one, don't ever forget that...

To be fair though, he can be complementary about the king all day, it doesnt' matter, he still underpins all his messages with "but i want his job"

If he does I reckon he'll be disappointed. I don't think Abramovich would dream of appointing a manager with such a history of briefing the media against his owners. This isn't to say Rafa was always wrong to do it, but it is to say Abramovich would never take that risk.

It must really be driving Benitez loco that a few months after he left we finally get in what so far appear to be decent owners , have a stable , calm club and a positive future . It's everything he's wanted for years and when he finally fucks off it arrives . But I've no real sympathy for him cause as far as I'm concerned he contributed to the off field insanity and games as much as the other fuckwits .

But regarding taking over at a Villa or a Blackburn , it always amazes me how fans of these clubs write off "failures" from the big clubs , be they managers or players . I mean I'm not benitez's biggest fan in the world , far from it , but even I can acknowledge his record in football and a club like aston fucking villa should be happy to have him. If they don't want him because of his stupid games then fair enough but if it's because they think he's a "failure" then they need to cop on to themselves and have a dose of realism .

This. If they do land Benitez, they'll be going from someone with a decent record (O'Neil) to one with a solid career record (Houllier) to one with a great career record (Benitez). All three don't play beautiful football but to think that they're too good for the last two is bordering on insanity.

Would serve them bloody right if they end up with Phil Brown.

Although I'm sure the beloved Fat Sam will be throwing his name in the ring at the first opportunity.

And when they sack Benitez they can hire Hodgson, but they can't have Kenny.

That's as much as we should allow them to copy us.

GERARD HOULLIER is being offered an escape route out of Villa Park this summer – leading to his native France.

And Aston Villa are already lining up potential replacements without-of-work duo Sam Allardyce and Rafa Benitez believed to be at the top of their list.

People Sport understands Houllier has been told a job is waiting for him at the France Football Federation, possibly even the role of technical director he left in September, if he walks away from – or is pushed out of the West Midlands club.

And if he or club owner Randy Lerner decide it is time for a parting of the ways then Benitez, 50, would top a shortlist of alternatives which includes Allardyce, Mark Hughes and Villa coach Kevin MacDonald.

You're obsession with Benitez is bordering on Brendan & Lucas-like.

Rafa is a genius - but he is unfortunately a workaholic.

He thinks too much, works so hard that he forgets the joy and beauty of football and focuses on the most insignificant of details.. which eventually drive him nuts.

i love the bloke but dont want managing us every again. Id rather not see him in management again as i dont think its good for his health. He should use the money he has received over the last year to do something he loves.

Rafa gets a ridiculous amount of stick on here.

He got us within spitting distance of a title; yes he's also arguably one of the reasons why we fell short but he was esssentially a few unfortunate injuries away from becoming a messiah.

He's a quality tactician with a clear pulling power for talented players,he's flawed but given the season Villa have just had I think he'd be a good option for them if GH gets the boot.

Rosco, you're being silly - 'Media Campaign' What do you expect? The man has a life in Liverpool, he loves the city, you just want him to up and fuck off to Madrid? Of course the media are going to ask him about the club and of course he's going to say he'd love to come back in the future, he loves the city, club and it's fans.

I really don't understand what you want the man to say.

Benitez would improve Villa I've no doubt but I think Allardyce would be a better fit. Benitez is a level above both Villa and Alardyce imo.
