Just read report in Israeli media saying he's been given a contract extension with big rise - Article also says that Rafa rejected approaches from both Barca & Real Madrid. Don't know if any of this (be it the contract or approaches) is true, but just passing info along.

Weren't Atletico interested earlier this summer too?

Yossi was fantastic in the second half of the season. If he can replicate that form over the course of the season he'll become a very prominent player for us. If not then it's back to being a squaddie.

He should learn to develop his effectiveness from the left-flank because it'd help us (and him) out considerably.

I read a report (Israeli source again) that he's gonna earn 75K pounds a week till July 2013.

There's absolutely no way Mascherano can be on £25k a week.

A few things here:

1. Yossi is a quality squad player and should defo be kept/given a contract extension.
2. Yossi isn't worth 75k a week surely? We need to be careful we don't get like Newcastle here, with about 16 players on the books earning over 60-70k.
3. Masher needs a new contract before Yossi

Well done Yossi. I think he'll keep on improving and become even more important to us than he's managed so far.

+1

And if we're raising Benny's pay, we should do that to keep Alonso and Masch too!

Deserves a new contract fo sure

But eyes on the prize and deal with the problems first (masch and xabi)

He'll play a big part in winning us the league this season now that he's found his role with the team. Great little player to have as part of the squad.

The 25K/week for Masher must be his net if true. He wants a payrise and he will get it cos he should have parity with the better players (not SG & FT).

Yossi Benayoun agrees Liverpool contract extension to remain at Anfield until 2013
By Sportsmail Reporter

Liverpool midfielder Yossi Benayoun has agreed a new deal to keep him at Anfield until 2013.
The 29-year-old agreed a two-year extension to his current Anfield contract.
The Israel international told Liverpoolfc.tv: 'I am very happy that we have reached an agreement. Of course, to be at a club like this is a dream come true and I want to keep playing here.
'Hopefully now I can concentrate on the hard work that needs to be done and try to play better and better and win some silverware.'
The former West Ham ace, who moved to Anfield from West Ham in July 2007, scored nine goals in 42 appearances during 2008-09.
In February, Benayoun marked Liverpool's first ever competitive visit to the Bernabeu with the only goal as we beat Real Madrid in the Champions League last 16.
A dramatic stoppage-time winner at Fulham followed in April before our No.15 struck twice in the pulsating 4-4 draw with Arsenal at Anfield.

He follows Steven Gerrard, Fernando Torres, Daniel Agger and Dirk Kuyt in committing his long-term future to the club.
Boss Rafa Benitez said: 'You know that our idea was to extend the contracts of some players and Yossi was one of these players.

'He has been really good for us over the last year, scoring crucial goals and getting assists, so we wanted to keep him and I'm really pleased with the extension.'

i like him but 2013? Would 2 years not be more appropriate? I really hope he wasn't just playing like someone who wanted a new contract at the end of last season, show us you're worth 75 grand a week 😀

Spot on mate.

Fully deserved for that goal against Fulham if nothing else. I screamed the house down when that flew in.

So we've now got him contracted on bumper wages until he's 33?! Hmmm priorities a bit on the piss? Sort Masher first Rafa?

Yossi is gonna be on big bucks when he's hardly getting a game for us at 32-33.
