Was behind everything we did when he came on. It will be a crime if he doesn't start week in week out from here on.

I don't know what Rafa was thinking not starting him anyways.

Babel played well in pre season, got his chance, and promptly was completely gutless, as usual. I don't fault Rafa for starting him, but I honestly would have pulled him off at halftime.

If Rafa gives up on Babel, I don't want to hear about giving him chances.

I agree Yossi was fantastic when he came on, but it's worth noting he wasn't playing LW. We altered our formation and he played (or seemed to - correct me if I'm wrong) in central attacking midfield, with Gerrard pushed further back. We looked SO much better as soon as that happened, there has to be a way of replicating it in our starting line-ups - at least until Aquilani is fit.

Yossi was brilliant. And, yes he's not a LW but the guy who plays behind the front players.
Voronin did moe damage than contribution, and I wish we rather had Riera or Kuyt on for those closing minutes.

Because Alonso's now gone, we've seemingly got not way to link midfield and attack, and that's what Yossi did superbly when he came on.

He takes up great positions, has nimble balance, and is a gifted dribbler, which means he can carry the ball directly into the danger zones.

He's a definite starter for the next game.

Babel, Gerrard or Torres didn't get a chance to get in the game. They were below average, yes, but they had very very very little to play with.

Lucas was one of the better players today in terms of work rate and also defensively, but he couldn't get the two in front of him and the two out wide to link up.

It is clear for me, Gerrard has to start in the middle. Yossi should play behind Torres and Babel should be given a couple more chances out wide with better service.....but the sticking point is that we are one quality forward player short and there is no hiding from that.

Agree with that, he's obviously learned how to tackle, but offered absolutely no service to the front 4. Looks a lot more like a backup to Mascherano than Alonso.

He showed energy and class when he came on, which we were badly missing all game.

He improved alot last season and we should expect him to start against Stoke.

yossi should have started today no doubt but there was definately more urgency from the entire team when he was on compared to first half.

It was a shame that Benayuon was the one who had to miss out in the starting line up, as he looked our biggest threat once he came on.

That said, I've said a couple of times that I think Rafa needs to back Babel and give him a run of games. He was infuriating today. But, Rafa made a decision to keep him, now it's time to back him. Or just sell him.

yossi on the left is average. but then babel is poor so average is better.

and scored. I still think Riera's going to be sold in a part-ex for Silva, although no one believes me yet.

Voronin was no where near as bad as some people want him to be.
[/quote]

I don't know which people want him to be bad, but he was very bad. He was clearly off pace and looked lost in the minutes he was on. He's a Liverpool player and I want him to succeed and contribute to the success of this club, but unfortunately I have the feeling that his best contribution can be getting off the pay bill of this club (and hopefully bringing a few millions as a transfer fee)

He doesnt need backing, he needs dropping. He's not good enough.

Can't be arsed opening a new thread.

We did not have a single drawn match on the first week of premiership. When was the last time this happened?

Yossi was excellent when he came on today, his ability to cut into the defense from the wing and unlock the back 4 is always impressive. Here's to hoping he starts against Stoke.

He's pretty much the only player that picked up where he left off last season.

He simply has to start from now on.

if riera is back fit, we should drop lucas and play Stevie G at midfield, and slot benayoun in his attacking midfield slot...with this formation, the midfield is more fluid and "we keep the ball more and pass it better"(as mentioned by Rafa in LFCTV)...we certainly do that with Lucas..

Lucas has no confidence on the ball and the players simply do not trust him with the ball, thus bypassing him each time we are in possession...

We need more players of Yossi's ilk.
