So I had the op on it 6 weeks back and for a couple of weeks it was sore but improving but then one morning, about 3 weeks after the op, I started getting excruciating sciatic pain. Worse than before the op.
Saw the consultant and he said it was probably and inflamed nerve but I went for another scan. Which revealed that the disc has prolapsed again and the nerve is inflamed. Not as bad as before apparently - try telling that to my sciatic nerve! But he can't operate for 2 reasons, one its now too soon since the last op and this represents a real risk of long term nerve damage and also because it has not slipped enough.
Had a CT nerve root block on Saturday, which basically involves a very fine needle being inserted next to the nerve and then a steriod being injected in which calms the nerve and helps the disc to shrink back into place. Gave me some pretty instant relief however once the local anaesthetic wore off the pain was back to its lovely self plus now I was getting some lovely burning pins and needles all down the leg.
When is this all going to end? I thought this would be solved and would be back to work today, instead I'm signed off for two more weeks and not able to do anywhere near as much as I could pre-op. I'm on these painkillers called Tramadol which, whenever I get the prescription renewed has the pharmacy nurse saying "you must be in pain if you're taking these" and warnings from other people that you get proper withdrawal symptoms when you finally come off them.
I'm not a happy bunny at the moment even with Liverpool's results.
Sympathy please!!!
