We need three more players in the starting eleven to be capable of winning the title,
Which is probably a fair assessment/too fair but who are those three players?

Surely it's not Jarvis,Adam and young?

So let's conservatively say we raise £22m In sales without reina leaving.

Say the owners will put the same again in..

Which 3 Players do you bring in with your 44m kitty?

Bearing in mind the Outgoings will be konch, jovanovic,Cole, aqua et al.

On a sidenote, the redtops are using the following Kenny quote in their Carroll articles this morning:'I've been with him at boyzone concertS'

How Many have they been going to?!

Javier Mascherano - 10m
Young - 20m
Gary Cahill - 12m

------------------------Reina-------------------------------
Kelly---------Cahill---------------Carragher---------Johnson
-------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------Mascherano---------------------------
------------Meireles----------------Gerrard-----------------
Young----------------------------------------------Sexuarez
------------------------Carroll-------------------------------

Kuyt
Agger
Lucas
The Greek
Suso
Sterling
Aurelio

I can definately see Young and Cahill coming over! Not sure about mascherano though! he has recently had a few games under his belt at Barca and im sure he will want to stick around longer to see if he can play a bigger part in something special!
I dont think Cole will leave either!

I think Cahill will cost more than £12m. There's a lot of interest in him and his star is rising quickly. That said, I don't think Young will fetch £20m with only a year left on his contract.

If we're signing only three players, I'd want to focus more heavily on attacking wide players, and a defensive midfielder.

Young £12m
A promising young winger £15m
M'Vila £15m

I think we'll have more than £42m to spend though, particularly when you include the income from outgoing players.

Good list as it addresses the three positions most in need of strengthening.

Cahill would be an excellent signing at that price but I think he'll cost a lot more. Mertesacker could be a cheaper alternative.

Mascherano is a bit unrealistic but I'd take him back in a heartbeat. He's exactly what we need and would make a huge difference. We need a good DM anyway, whoever that may be.

I'd be reasonably happy with Young but I'm still hoping we pull off someone like Sanchez or Hazard. Actually I'm hoping we get one of them AND Young but we'll see.

On his own, I don't think he'd make much difference at all. We came 7th last year with Mascherano a permanent fixture in the side. With a creative partner however, he's the perfect foil.

Don't want him back though.

Last year we didn't have Raul though. The midfield of Mascherano, Raul and Gerrard would be excellent imo.

Mascher was great for us and is exactly the type of player we need. Saying that though we'll never see him back here so i guess we've just got to find someone else of similar style/quality.

I agree.

It's when he played alongside Lucas that we tended to look shite.

Alonso
Mascherano
Young

Yum.

p.s I don't in anyway think this would happen. It would be amazing though.

Yeah well, Lucas is here for the long run considering that he just extended his contract.
Fuck Mascherano. Let him roll around in the shit he created.

Our midfield trio of Lucas Gerrard and Meireles is quite balanced but we're in need of a player that can create space for himself, dribble and provide passes to the attackers.
Someone like Aquaman would be great. Maybe even Adam who can compete with Lucas.

I don't think Raul is quite the creative force that we need. I like him a lot, but I'm just not convinced he fits the equation. I might be persuaded if we add some serious creativity on the wings, though.

Would you say no to Kaka?

I think he would be perfect for us.

Consider this midfield:

Meireles Gerrard

Kaka

Kaka is finished I think ...
[/quote]

That's what my Manure supporting brother keeps telling me but I don't think so.
Injuries have certainly taken it's toll on him but with a decent pre season and careful nurtering who knows?
He's only 28 years old I think he's got a couple of years left in him.
If we can get him for the right price I'd say £18-20 Million I think we should go for it.

a) he was really poor in the World Cup.
b) he's been poor since he signed for Madrid (by poor, I mean well below his 'average' days, which were rare, with Milan)
c) if he's struggling in a slower & less rougher league, how will he survive in England?
d) it's Sheva MK II for whoever buys him next, unless it's Milan - which may work.

We need a left back, an attacking wide player & a centre back.

Johnson is not the solution at LB.

If we got leighton baines, Ashley young & Gary Cahill I'd be happy.

If we then went out and added sylvan marveaux & Charlie Adam for next to fuck all - which is what they'd be available for - then we'd have had a reasonable window.

Good point(s).
However maybe Madrid was never the right fit for him?
I don't know maybe I'm looking at his name more than his ability but the guy is class and I wouldn't mind seeing him in red.

I don't think we can afford to take the risk on Kaka. A team like City can.

We should be looking at next generation stars, maybe like this guy:

I agree, and Ganso would be amazing but his price is being put at 35mil euro, so there goes all the budget on 1 player.

id love neymar, ganso, young and cahill but it wont happen.

---------------------Reina
Kelly------Cahill----------Agger-----Johnson
---------------------M'Villa
--------------Gerrard----Meireles
--Suarez-----------------------------A.Young
---------------------Carroll

Cahill - 15mil
M'Villa - 15mil
A.Young - 15mil

id also buy Srna as he is available on a free and he can cover RB as well as the wing

Adam, Young and Baines is a realistic estimate of who we might go for, and I think they'll balance our team nicely.

----Suarez Carroll Young
---Adam Gerrard Meireles
Baines Agger Kelly Johnson
-------------Reina

---------Carroll Suarez
Young Gerrard Adam Meireles
Baines Agger Kelly Johnson
-------------Reina

We're already the form team in the Premiership, so I believe that this will be enough. Get good players in the weak positions and focus on playing a style of football that can take us forward.

Does he mean in the squad or in the starting line up?
Cause if it's the starting line up I'd have to agree.

We were missing 4 starters this game, Gerrard, Agger, Johnson and Kelly.
I think it would have been a different story if they played.

He really, really didn't want to leave Milan and only agreed to go because they needed the money. Whether his next move will be a success depends entirely on whether or not his heart is in it. If it is, at his age he should have three or four of his best years still ahead of him.

I think we should invest the money in two or three really good players and not fall into the trap of buying for the squad.

As for who, Del's pretty much nailed it, IMO.
