Been thinking about this thread for a while now given our financial situation.
This summer is probably going to be long, painful, devestating and rumourfilled with both players and managers going and coming.
Since our transfer warchest will be pretty low, I was thinking about players that we can get for relativly small sums, maybe not from the top shelf but who can be a good squad player and do a job when needed. Today our squaddied are, well, not good enough. I don't care about which clubs these players play for or if they're a big name. Our new manager will hopefully understand that we need pacey wingers and more creativity. And more guts and nastyness if we're going to battle home more 3 pointers against the lower placed clubs in the EPL.
We need of course quality players that can walk into the team, but we can't afford to many of them. It's equally important that the ones on the bench are good enough. The likes of Voronin, Degen, El Zhar and N'Gog etc aren't good enough. We've already moved Voronin on, thank God. But let's look at players that can improve us as a team/squad that are already located in the EPL, mainly from clubs in the bottom half of the table.
Chung-Yong Lee Bolton
This lad has really impressed me this year. Pacey, direct, great movement and an excellent team player. 21 years old and will only improve. 27 matches 4 goals and 6 assists. Thats very good in his first season for a struggeling Bolton.
Matt Jarvis Wolves
As Lee, this lad also has impressed me whenever I've watched Wolves. Lightning pace, direct, can play on either wing and works his socks off. 24 games 2 goals and 5 assists. Ideal player to have on the bench or in the squad. 23 years old and will only improve.
Martin Petrov Man City
Maybe a forgotten man in todays City squad. But is out of contract after this season, and still has lightning pace to burn. Creates goals and is a hazzle for any defender. As a free transfer that will give our left side some much needed pace, I think this is an extremely good signing.
Maynor Figueroa Wigan
Big strong left back that is as good going forward as he is defending. Will be on a lot of clubs radar, and we should be on him like glue. We need a new left back, and this lad could be the answer. Will probably cost 6-7 mill £, but that is nearly all that we can afford.
Karl Henry Wolves
Has impressed me immensly every time I've seen him play. Good passer of the ball, great tackler and plays with his heart on his sleeve. Good enough for us? Toughy, but Lucas has played nearly every game this season , and I'd rather have Henry. Not as a starter but a great squaddie.
Kevin Davies Bolton
Yes, I know we all hate his guts. And why not, he's a massive cunt. But he's exactly what we need upfront next to Torres. Big, strong centre forward that will take all the pressure of Fernando and chip in with a few goals. Many people on this site wouldn't touch him with a pogo stick, but we've been screaming out for a player like him for some time now. If Bolton go down, he'll be a cheap but good investment for a back up striker. We desperatly need more than plan A Torres, if that doesn't work we're usually fucked.
Kevin McDonald Burnley
This young midfielder has also caught my eye on several occations. Big strong and a good passer of the ball. Great work rate and could be a very good midfielder with time.
Scott Parker West Ham/ Mark Noble West Ham
If West Ham go down, these boys will be on the move. Parker will be the cheaper option, but I really like Noble. Don't know the price he'll go for, but it won't be cheap and he'll have plenty of suitors. Would be an excellent signing though.
Steven Muoyokolo Hull
Hull are a certainty for relegation, but this lad has really stood out as one of their star performers. Like Turner from last years side, he's big and strong and commands the air with ease. Quite pacey aswell and is only 23 years old. Linked with moves to us, Chelsea and Arsenal.
Joe Cole Chelsea
Looks like he'll be moving on after this season, and he'll have plenty of suitors. Will take a huge weekly wage to get him, but that would be more than ok for me. Is excatly what we need, but fitness and injuries are a problem.
Feel free to add any other players that you feel we could take a gamble on. Maybe not costing all that much or be a big name. But David Moyes has really been a great example in finding the right type of players that can fit into his team.
We desperatly need pace in our side, and also a presence both in attack and at the back. A great manager would get the right balance with creatvity, pace, physical players and workers. We have a great spine, but really need some quality players to fill in the gaps. If we can get in some excellent squaddies aswell, that maybe can push on for a starting place, then that would of course be a hugh bonus.
