Liverpool will welcome Joel Matip and Marko Grujic back into their squad for this weekend’s double header with FC Barcelona and FSV Mainz 05, Jürgen Klopp has confirmed.

The boss expects Matip to figure in one of the fixtures at Wembley or the Opel Arena having been out of action since the Reds took on Wigan Athletic on July 17.

Grujic, meanwhile, sustained a blow to the head during Liverpool’s International Champions Cup fixture with Chelsea in Los Angeles that ruled him out of the subsequent matches against AC Milan and AS Roma.

However, the pair will be involved over the course of the weekend as Klopp takes the Reds firstly to Wembley and then to Germany in the space of two days.
The boss told a press conference at Melwood: “Both are involved again.

“With Marko we had to wait until the doc gave us the green light and said ‘go for it’ because of the kind of injury. It was not too serious, but we all more or less use our brain and he needs his for football. He has been back since yesterday and is available.

“Joel has trained for three days so he will be involved too. Lucas is still not available and Joe [Gomez].“

Meanwhile, Klopp admits Liverpool may still be involved in transfer activity before the close of the window at the end of this month.

He said: “I am long enough in football to know the final word we will say about this [transfers] will be on August 31. Until then, we have to always be ready to do something or to handle something, on the selling or buying side.

“I am fine - the squad is good. But [take] the centre-half situation, we have two or three players that made [pre-season], Joel Matip couldn’t do [play] that much but now he is back in training and I think – and hope – he can play one game at the weekend.

“Then, we have Mama with a problem, Joe Gomez with a problem and Lucas Leiva with a problem. It’s in one position. Of course, Lucas is a midfield player but he can play centre-half.

“It is like it is. We will see what happens with injuries and things like this, so always you need to be ready to find a solution. It [the transfer window] is not finished and so we have to wait until we can say ‘that’s it’.

“But for the moment and especially the first game – I think until the first game one or two things can happen – then still there are still two weeks to go.

“It’s professional football and you need to be ready.”

They're not going to accept a bid if it's stupid or they know they can get more. If someone comes in a offers ~30mill with no addons then I think they'll let him go.

Absolutely, and there's no financial pressure to sell in order to fund transfers or anything, or any need to get him off the wage bill. He's only one year into the contract and I don't see why we shouldn't hold out for £30 million especially when players are mostly being signed for ridiculous amounts.

Ha Ha ! Gotta love Klopp :

“With Marko we had to wait until the doc gave us the green light and said ‘go for it’ because of the kind of injury. It was not too serious, but we all more or less use our brain and he needs his for football.

We're fucking idiots for holding out for that extra money for Benteke. The risk of being stuck with him is too great to trifle with over a few million. We made the same idiotic mistake with Chilwell.

And Dele Alli, of course. Pure idiocy.

Wasnt it more that Klopp felt Chilwell werent that committed to joining us?
Alli was a joke mind and lets hope we get 30 mill for Benteke.

The club are playing it smart (for a change) with Benteke, he is a saleable asset and we are holding out for the best price.

I reckon our negotiators are all different this year with Ayre marginalised. Look at some of our sales (Ibe £15m, Smith £6m) and the buy backs plus the 75% playing time for our loans. We are not patsies any more

If we'd sold Benteke for £25m early in the window then that could've been accounted for as part of Klopp's budget and invested in appreciating (and remunerative) playing assets. If we sell him for £30m now then the likelihood is that the proceeds will be held in rapidly depreciating cash for the next 12 months.

And that's still being exposed to the risk of not selling him at all or being forced to accept the lower price.

It's a poor gamble to take.

Don't always agree with PH, but he's 100%+ right here imo. My only proviso is that I wouldn't sell him to the bitters.

I'd sell him to anyone as it's blatantly clear he wants to go and we don't want him. Great having £30mill in the bank right at the end of the window when we can't spend it.

I highly doubt that the sale of Benteke effects the budget for this window in the slightest. The budget would probably have been agreed back when Klopp was hired, if not at least a few months ago, and its highly unlikely we'll receive the majority of the fee from any Benteke sale upfront anyway. It's only a bad gamble if we fail to see him this window.

You don't think income amounting to more than half of our net spend would affect our budget 'in the slightest'?

The point about the timing of instalments is basically irrelevant as the fees we pay out are also generally in instalments. What matters is the obligations we feel able to enter into and what determines that is the total of the assets at our disposal, and a debtor of £25m is a very significant asset.

Not this season, no, it probably would for the next window and that's kind of my point, as long as we sell him this window it was a good gamble, if we don't manage to, then it isn't.

I think it's obvious that what clubs spend in a window is partly a function of what they raise in sales.

Where do you think all the money we spent the summer Suarez was sold came from?

I was expecting this to be on sky sports, it was being hyped on Spanish tv all week when I was over there.

I can only find it on lfc tv, which is a shame cos the picture in this channel is pretty shit, even for standard definition.

Do you have an android device eecheerow?

If so, get mobdro, works over 4g and has pretty much all UK channels Inc skysports and LFCTV and works in pretty good quality.
