DOUGLAS TO REPLACE CARRA
Jamie Carragher is, as you know, retiring at the end of the season, and according to The Daily Mail, Liverpool have the man they want to replace him lined up.

And that man is Douglas, the FA Twente defender, who is available on a free at the end of the season.

Brendan Rodgers is apparently 'a fan of Swansea's Ashley Williams and Tottenham's Steven Caulker but their valuations are high. Liverpool have also watched Stefan de Vrij at Feyenoord and Sevilla's Federico Fazio.'

Rodgers will have around £25million to spend this summer, according to the paper, and wants at least four players. Thus, the parsimonious option with Douglas.

NEW DEAL FOR LAMPARD?
Interesting line in The Daily Express, who report that Frank Lampard has been told that he will be offered a new one-year contract at Chelsea.

The paper claims that Lampard has 'been in talks for weeks', and expects to get something sorted shortly, thus turning down a move to LA Galaxy.

The Express quotes a 'source' as saying: "Frank still expects to be at the club next season. He's keen to get it sorted out as quickly as possible."

FERNANDINHO FANCIES CITY
Shakhtar Donetsk's Brazilian midfielder Fernandinho clearly fancies his chances of signing for Manchester City.

The Lying Rag quotes him as saying: "I believe my chances of making the World Cup squad will improve if I join City.

"My exposure would be better, because Brazil is biased towards the Ukrainian league.

"What we do here is not recognised in my country. Playing in a division, at a club that is considered among the best in the world would help me get back in the Brazilian national team.

"There are a lot of people in England with good football knowledge. Those complement my skills, and motivate me to want to play in the Premier League."

Apparently he has a £42.5millian release clause in his contract, but Shakhtar could take around £20million.

BEGOVIC NOT SOLD YET
Here's Tony Pulis on who has, or more specifically who hasn't, been in touch with him over Asmir Begovic.

"No, no-one's rung me up to ask about Asmir and if they did the price would be ... I can't even think. They'd have to spend a hell of a lot of money to take him away. I couldn't even give you a price because I haven't even thought about it.

"The fact we've signed Jack doesn't mean we're going to sell Asmir. I still think there's more to come from Asmir. He's going to get better. He's been brilliant this year but there's still more to come."

DORTMUND DESPERATE FOR CHELSEA TO STEP IN
Borussia Dortmund are understandably keen that Robert Lewandowski, should he leave this summer, does not go to Bayern Munich.

And The Daily Star reports that they are desperate for someone to step in and save their bratwurst.

The paper claims: 'So they have been trying to stoke up Chelsea's interest in the £25m-rated Pole, who is also high on Manchester United's wanted list.

'But Dortmund have made a deal more inviting for Chelsea by revealing they want De Bruyne, 21 - who has been on a season-long loan at Werder Bremen.'

AND THE REST...
Hull City boss Steve Bruce is ready to give keeper Chris Kirkland a Premier League swansong...Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino wants to make Valencia's Spanish ace Victor Ruiz his first signing at St Mary's...Reading's Hal Robson-Kanu is a £2.5million target for Cardiff...Wigan's Spanish centre-half Roman Golobart is ready to quit at the end of the season...Bolton boss Dougie Freedman wants Jermaine Beckford to fire his side to promotion next season...Man City are stepping up interest in Italy defender Davide Astori...Everton and Stoke will rival Swansea for QPR winger Junior Hoilett...Man United are considering a move for Colmbia U20 international midfielder Juan Fernando Quintero.

I've never seen Douglas play, but on a free .... a 25 year old centre back who is 6'4 and appears to be rated by others. I'd gamble on him given our circumstances.

"Given my playing style, a transfer to one of those two countries would suit me best," he said. "Several clubs have taken an interest. In the last transfer window, there was interest from Newcastle United, Schalke, Borussia Dortmund and a club in Russia."

If they need to save money then use the youth set up. That's what it's supposed to be there for.

Liverpool refuse to sanction Rodgers's Williams move

The Reds boss holds the centre-back in high esteem from his days at Swansea City but the club's transfer committee disagrees and will have no intention of approving a deal
EXCLUSIVE
By Richard Buxton

Liverpool's owners are refusing to sanction Brendan Rodgers's plans to sign Ashley Williams,Goal.com can reveal.

The Swansea City defender had been heavily tipped to succeed Jamie Carragher at the heart of the Anfield club's back line next season, with the veteran centre-back set to hang up his boots, but Fenway Sports Group has no plans to rubber-stamp any deal.

As revealed by Goal.com in April, Arsenal have stepped up their pursuit of Williams, who turns 29 in August, which threatened to see them go head to head in the transfer market with Liverpool to secure the Wales captain's services.

Rodgers has vowed to "search far and wide" for Carragher's replacement but, while the 40-year-old continues to hold Williams in high esteem from his time at the Liberty Stadium, it is not a view shared by the Reds' transfer committee, which assesses and identifies transfer targets.

FSG's previous management structure saw them fail to broker a deal for Clint Dempsey last summer, with the attacking midfielder's move to Tottenham on transfer deadline day forcing Rodgers to rely heavily on Luis Suarez until January as one of Liverpool's only two recognised senior strikers.

Williams, who agreed a one-year extension to his current Swansea deal to stay with the Capital One Cup holders until 2015, is valued at £12 million, which the Anfield hierarchy do not believe represents good business sense due to the lack of longevity his capture would provide.

However, Goal.com understands that the Americans' reluctance to bankroll a move for the boyhood Liverpool fan does not rule out future moves for experienced players, should they become available at a reasonable price.

Williams's representatives met with Arsenal in London in April as the Gunners began formalising their plans to strengthen their central defence this season, while Laurent Koscielny has been targeted by Bayern Munich, as Goal.com exclusively revealed on Thursday.http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2892...ool-refuse-to-sanction-rodgerss-williams-move

Totally agree if it's true, but what worries me is that the same report suggests Bayern are interested in Koscielny, which doesn't do much for its cred in my book.

If he wants Williams he'll get him. He's spent x on Borini and y on Allen. This goal.com bullshit is just that.

Not that Id like Williams here.

He bought both of those at a time when we were putting a structure in place to stop managers doing stupid things like buying their old players for stupid sums.

That seems to be in place now, so I doubt we'll sign Williams.

We better not as he's wank. Papers keep talking about replacing carra, but we've never replaced hyypia and thats the type of player we need more.

Yay, the transfer committee!
Willams is past his prime, too expensive and the corner-stone of a defence that is worst than our own. Plus he has publicly declared that he hates and wanted to knock out our top scorer. Broaden your horizons Brendan.
In fact 2 or even three YAYS! to the transfer committee. Who is on that committee, Ian Rush and a few others?

They've been linked with him for months on end though so that one was always going to happen.

We basically just need to black bag scouts from Dortmund, Ajax, Milan and some other clubs and beat targets out of them.

You should phone him and Chelsea and protest heavily.

You should realise that if something is impossible that specific rumour is probably bullshit.

Everyone knows you can only sign a pre contract agreement when you're in the last six months of your deal, so it's safe to assume that Schurrle hasn't signed anything.

Shame it comes from Leverkusens own General manager then;

He may be satisfied this summer, though, as Holzhauser hinted that a deal could soon be struck. "Andre Schurrle has probably signed a pre-contract deal with Chelsea," Holzhauser is quoted as saying by Kicker magazine.
"It all depends on whether we let him go. We have received a concrete offer for a fee which we are considering. But the price alone is not decisive. We must also have alternatives, which we don't have yet."

Is this key word. It's speculation on his part. Chelsea could have tapped him up, but nothing is out in the open

100% he is off - most likely to Chelsea.

Leverkusen have already signed his replacement from Fortuna Dusseldorf, Robbie Kruse.

Another summer of us thinking we can get top players, then realising that apart from the odd fluke (Suarez) all the top players will go to teams above us. Or in Europe. We are in the hands of a committee and a manager with hardly any experience. Scary times again.

To be honest I would be more than happy with three signings of the standard of Coutinho.
£25m well spent.

Yup. I'd be looking once again at some of the other top teams to see who they may be willing to get rid of. Adriano at Barca for example would be a great addition though I would assume they'd be unwilling to let him go.

Cristian Tello is a snip in a number of ways. The academy graduate had a great game against Betis, putting in two balls from the wing that neither Iniesta nor Villa could capitalise on. He also saw a shot come off the crossbar. The Camp Nou even chorused his name for a few moments. According to statistics, he is more effective than Alexis, Pedro and Villa, plus he is only 21 years old.

Tello ticks all the boxes to become a star in his own right and is under contract at Barça until 2016. So, what exactly is Barça's problem? It is that his buy-out clause is only €10m and Liverpool already made a serious offer for him last summer.

The winger, whose contract was up this summer, signed a new deal last December after months of negotiations between his agent, Josep María Orobitg, Zubizarreta and Bartomeu. The sticking point was, in fact, the buy-out clause, which finally remained at €10m. Now there could be trouble ahead for Barcelona.

Tito Vilanova maintains that he has given him playing time and after the game against Betis, he had to answer as many as three questions about the player. To the last one, whether he thought that Tello should have started against Bayern, he responded bluntly: "It's easy to talk about in hindsight, I made that decision and that's all there is to it".

I'd be amazed if Tello ends up going. It seems more likely that he'll get a new contract and a bumped up release clause.

Alexis Sanchez will go almost certainly, possibly Villa too.

Should we be all over sanchez ? I remember him being boss as udinese, has he got stage fright at barca?
