Away Goals Rule Shouldn't Apply in Extra Time

AC Madrid played better football over the two legs and I am not claiming that we were robbed.

However, it was only AC Madrid who had the opportunity to score an away goal in extra time. The extra time was played out at Anfield because of the lottery of the draw.

Surely the away goals rule should only apply for 90 minutes? ???

x 1000.

It's exactly right Portly and I've been of the belief since our CL winning run.

I'm the same but cannot see them changing it to be honest they are to set in their ways.

I thought that too, going into last night. Should have gone to pens really. They had 120 mins to get an away goal, we only had 90.

I s'pose it could be argued that we had a small advantage with the 2nd & deciding leg being at home. We were definitley disadvantaged by having El Zhar coming on, but I suspect that would be seen as self inflicted.

I was thinking that at the match too last night.

We did still have the benefit of playing the extra 30 at home, which is an advantage. However, I guess you could argue against that by saying its the luck of the draw as to which side gets the home leg 2nd.

I can't agree lads. We have the advantage of playing 120 mins at home, they would be dissadvantaged if away goals didn't count. It's not perfect but there isn't an ideal.

away goal is fair.
the have the advantage of an away goal for 30 minutes
you have the advantage of the crowd for 30 minutes

It would also be helpful if the linesman wasn't a hopeless piece of shite and had avoided flagging Yossi's perfectly valid away goal.

Both teams have had their 90minutes each at their home grounds. Extra time should wipe the slate clean.

That's a good point, at 90 minutes everything is fair. For completeness therefore, we should then play extra time in a neutral location...

Away goals are part of the game.. It is evened out by the home team have the advantage of playing 30 mins ectra at home. No big deal. We had the game ready and wrapped. However we made some subs killing the game off for us. Taking off Aquilani 2 mins before he could get some minutes rest is ridicoulous... especially when you put on a player not fit enough for the Faroe Island league!

Or play 15 minutes after the final whistle of the first leg. That 15 minutes would only be brought into the equation if scores were tied at 180 minutes of the two legs.
That would be mad exciting because the away team in the first leg would plow everything into that 15 minutes on the off chance it mattered.
Fuck Blatter i'm the man.

playing extra time on a neutral ground.

What about a 5 a side kick about in the parking lot?

Winner takes all.

I agree with the original post, also I think that the rules should allow 2 extra subs if the game goes to extra time

+1

One side gets an extra thirty minutes to score an away goal while the other gets an extra thirty minutes of home advantage.
It might not be completely fair but it seems the best solution in the circumstances.

It wasn't so long ago that they did a freaking coin toss to decide the winners.

Must of been some well thick droids running Fifa / Uefa back then.

Why not just go straight into penalties if everything is even after the 2 legs.
[/quote]

I think that's a good idea. Although it didn't apply to our game on Thursday, very often you find that not much happens during the 30 minutes of extra time, as both sides have resigned themselves to penalties and just want to get through the extra time without conceding a goal.

Nah Portly, everyone knows its been there since the beginning and we can't complain now.

We weren't good enough simple as.

I cant say i agree as we had an extra 30mins playing at home and we couldnt progress so we obviously didnt deserve to go through.
