Attacking-problems solved!!

The following two signings would make us into not only a Champions League playing team again but also a title-aspiring one too.

Eden Hazard and Ashley Young.

The former is one of the most talented young attacking-minded players around and we'll be very lucky to win his signature but with NESV interested in building for the future we'll perhaps be bold enough too outbid any other interested parties. I'd be absolutely delighted with Hazard, not only because of his awesome name but simply because he's got the potential to be a world star.

Ashley Young is another winger we'd be spoiled to have at Anfield. I've admittedly not always been his biggest admirer but recent years has shown that he's got what it takes to make it at the top. The fact he's English and knows the Premiership just makes him an even hotter prospect. He'd occupy our left wing and the dangerous Hazard will start on the right.

Imagine this for an attacking-minded line-up:

.................................Gerrard.................Raul....................................
Hazard........................................Cole.....................................Young
..............................................Torres................................................

Bench: Kuyt, New striker (perhaps Necid or Kerzhakov), Maxi, N'Gog, Pacheco, Amoo

I know these FM-thread always are highly speculative and so is this one but on the other hand neither of Hazard nor Young plays at bigger clubs than Liverpool and neither is yet top-bracket players. As in they are both probably somewhat affordable.

If there's any chance of signing these two players both financially and personally we really should go all in. I for one wouldn't even mind seeing us splash £40M on that duo.

Imagine a Liverpool team with pacy, trickery wingers with potential to be the best around?

Dreams on....

Won't happen though...

I want it to happen. It will happen.

So Gerard and Meireles up front with Torres as a holding mid? You have some weird ideas, KHL.

It wouldn't be the first time we've played someone out of position though.

i'm not too keen on ashley young really. decent player, but i doubt we'd be able to get him without paying way over the odds - he'd be another magic, worth maybe £12m, goes for £18m.

also, i'm not that arsed about us going all attacking, at least not as an objective itself. what i really want is for NESV to be bold and give comolli and a new coach the power to go out and sign 4 or 5 really high quality young players as a one off adrenaline shot to the squad: it might take £60-70m to do it, but if that's the bulk of the signings you need for the next 5-7 years then it'd be a great investment.

I actually do. The fact young is a right-footed left-winger has always confused me a bit. They can probably play on either wings both of them though.

Sign David Wheater, so that we can stick him upfront in the last minutes when we are chasing a goal. Attacking problem solved.

I'm one of apparently few on here who actually believes Johnson was/is worth every penny. If you want the potential best players around for any given position you'd always have to pay a decent ammount of money.

Young has shown the potential and has got the right age to take that last step career-wise and I believe he's got what it takes. He's fast, skillful, great man-to-man and has got an eye for a goal as well. I'd happily pay £18M for him as I would with regards to Hazard.

It would be so exciting if we went totally OTT with signing young talent. Lukaku, Hazard, Griezmann and a couple of defenders would do.

Bah, I won't allow myself to hope. We'll end up with SWP, Samaras and Wheater.

i think johnson's a great player and by no means a bad signing, but i think there are very few of us who seriously doubt he was overpriced - didn't rafa even imply that when he was signed? i can't remember the exact comments, but they defo suggested he wasn't happy with what we had to pay. i think the only reason we did go that high was the necessity to get the crouch money back from pompey by any means along with chelsea joining in the bidding process: we had no choice but to match their offer (as i remember).

just not convinced about young - he's not even that 'young', anyway, he'll be 26 next summer, so any talk of 'potential' seems a bit fanciful.

Agree with this sentiment; though with some careful nursing and blooding of our existing players the amount might be a lot less than 70 million (which is pretty steep).

I think Young is nowhere worth what we'd have to pay, true.

He has 'shown enough potential' to convince me at least that he's got what it takes to play at one of the biggest clubs around. As in Liverpool. He's entering his best age as a footballer and now would be the exact right time to buy him if we are indeed interested.

We'd be such a different team to watch with two superb wingers in the Hazard and Young-mould. I actually can't remember the last classy, skillful and fast winger we've got, one that'll make the fans raise their voices in sheer anticipation whenever on the ball?

McManaman was it?

You dont have to even ask the question because you and the whole world know the answer.

It's totally mind-boggling how we've been utter shit in that position for 15 odd years.

£70m outlay, but sell:

aquilani
babel
lucas or poulsen
ngog
kuyt or jovanovic

would bring in £30-40m depending on the players sold, so it's not a *massive* investment. big, but not totally unrealistic: it's about what H&G gave benitez in their first year, although of course that was on the back of £30m CL money.

Kewell before the injury. I liked Berger a lot too.

But yeah we have been starving for wingers too long now.

One of the only problems I've got with that list.

Kuyt or Jovanovic?

One is completely mediocre and has never shown anything of note the other is one of the most important players in the squad? What?

I wouldn't sell N'Gog either.

i've got nothing against kuyt, but he's 30, would fetch a good fee, and if we sign a couple of proper wingers would struggle to make the first XI. i'm not saying him and jova are equivalents, just that it might be a good time to sell either one of them for one reason or another.

oh, and ngog...he's just a waste of time, really though, isn't he? he's not going to be good enough, so if we could get £4-5m i'd flog him.

I doubt that we'd get any money for Jova to be honest and I'd be completely against a sale of Kuyt.

For me he's still a key figure in the squad and with his physique in mind I can see him go on for years. It's not like he's ever relied on pace anyways.

he does rely on the benson & hedges, though, so i'm not entirely sure if he'll be playing for years to come. look, i wouldn't be at all upset if he stayed on, but i just think there's an argument to be made that this might be a wise time to cash in. where do you see him playing in your attacking hazard and young line-up? at right back?

The money we'd get for him anyways would never justify departing with one of our most reliable firstteamers.

I agree with you here. We should definitely keep him if we don't recieve a huge bid from Rafa.

Kuyt is one of the few players who I feel really loves the club. If we are to bring a lot of youngsters in it's good to have some experienced players around who know what the club is all about. I'm sure Kuyt would still have a lot to offer on the pitch but also off it as well.
