So out of interest Macca - what do you advocate doing? Should Rodgers be sacked immediately? Who should he be replaced by? What do you expect to be done differently? What would constitute progress?

I've not told you what you're thinking.

If we'd have won today, we'd be 2points off 4th going into the xmas period. And you'd be fucking hating it .

You damn well are telling me what I think and it's bang out of order. I've never wanted the team to lose and I never will, and never will be hating it if the team gains points, so read back your earlier post and shut it.

An experienced manager who has won things and is used to the expectations of a big club. ASAP. Progress, winning games.

And a middle eastern dictator with a zillion dollars to make everything cool. And some Twinkies, and a helicopter.

We have 2 main problems:

1. We concede too many goals
2. We don't score enough goals

You can put the latter down to a lack of quality players in the final third. However, that isn't the case for how many goals we are letting in. We leave ourselves way too open too often. So many goals that we concede are just easy chances for the opposition. Look at Benteke's goals yesterday - a free shot on the edge of the box with no-one near him or closing down, and then an unchallenged run in our final third into the box with an easy finish. There's something fundamentally wrong with our setup that allows this to happen too often.

Macca, do you have any specific (realistic) name you'd like to see as our new manager?
I personally was quite happy with the idea of a new young manager and I still believe Rodgers should be given more time (and financial support) although I have to admit that the current shape of the team is worrying. He will definitely have to make some changes and sooner rather than later.

But, we lost, and now you're happy as Larry as it gives you plenty of ammo to fire off at the boss as we're not Barcelona inside 6months. Obviously Rome was built overnight, by Kenny I presume.

I don't think Rodgers is the messiah, but he needs time, and more importantly, players that give a fuck and want to win. If he gets that, he will get it right, I promise you.

It was quite close....

I'm not sure it's a mater of our setup. In both Villa's 2nd and 3rd goals there were enough Liverpool players around the Villa forwards.
Benteke was surrounded by our players for his second goal (I think there were 2-3 around him) yet he managed to go all the way and score.Similarly for their 2nd goal - there were more than enough players in red to stop Benteke and Weimann, yet they seemed to have so much space simply because our players stopped running and were watching them.
I find it hard to believe that experienced professionals who earn obscene salaries need to be told to keep running with the opposition forward and prevent them from scoring.

Thanks to FSG, the candidates are fewer now than in the summer. But I'd be happy to bring in Van Gaal. He could continue in the short term with his country. He could work with a young protege, which is what should have happened in the first case. If Rodgers hadn't been so arrogant in resisting any such set-up I wouldn't have minded him working with a much more experienced manager. He would have learned something, and the club would still be a club instead of a glorified computer game for someone 'living the dream'.

Yeah.. Having Joe Allen around opposition players have prevented them from scoring before?

Y'all just gonna have to accept that Benteke is the greatest footballer that ever lived.
He's twenty fucking two

And built like a golem

He's immense.

Belgium should win a world cup before England looking at their current golden batch

Who though Macca?

We've tried promoting from within, ex-players with success elsewhere, managers with bags of experience both domestic & overseas and highly sought after young managers who won top European leagues. Heck, we even tried giving the man who last won us the league a crack.

None of its worked.

That's nonsense Macca - what's arrogant about a manager already managing a team in the top division refusing a "protege" position. No manager would do that - they'd be idiots if they did.

When's the last time a director of football setup has proven successful in England.

In fairness to macca he's named Van Gaal. Apparently he was contacted and did express an interest at one stage.

That said, for once I don't agree with macca here. He suggests a scenario whereby Van Gaal would take the job (a) alongside the Holland job for a while and (b) with a younger coach working under him, whereas I wouldn't want to see that happen. For one thing I'd want someone who was utterly focused on us, and for another I don't think any younger coach worth looking at would be content with that kind of arrangement. In the extremely unlikely event that we found a coach of real stature who *was* willing to go that route, I doubt they'd last even half a season working under Van Gaal, whose football knowledge is second to none but whose outlook is about as collaborative as Stalin's on a bad day.

I have my doubts about Van Gaal as a mentor tbh. He's a crazy man.

His comments after getting the Holland job leads me to think combining the two would be difficult.
It would end with us getting the short end of the stick.

I'd have Klopp though. He's fantastic, but I'm guessing some of our fans would be screaming for his head aswell after a few defeats.

Imho, we should have hired someone else in 2011. We had money to spend and could have had a few extra quality players. Hindsight is a beautiful thing mind.

Bollocks, with the exception of Souness, and even he won something, it's been more promising than this. Are the Men in Black flashing their pens around???

Yes, that's right, he compares horrifically with the illustrious mastermind who got promotion via the back door. Yes, fuck off crazy man and leave the experts to do their job.

Nor would I, but I was asked about candidates here and now, and since Rodgers was indulged to the extent he could block anyone when there was a good range of options, what do we expect? He was handed the means to protect his own position. Not even Redknapp, or Rafa, is available now.

How many of them won a trophy before Christmas in their first season?

You're being ridiculous now.

All bar Roy got at least a season to show something.... anything - you started this critical line almost before a ball had been kicked.

Yes, dont think about how the working environment will be or how difficult he can be to deal with.
Nor the fact that he's the manager of Holland and based in another country for most parts of the season.
The chance of us having loads of internal turmoil would be huge.

Great to see you having another pop at the manager aswell.

That makes no sense at all. Are you suggesting Rafa & Redknapp would have agreed to work under Van Gael or that they would have been outrageously egotistical if they'd refused such a structure?

You seem to be criticizing Rodgers for doing what any manager in their right mind would do - ie reject the chance to be, effectively, the assistant manager.

If we'd have brought in Val Gaal and kept Clarke then I would have understood it - but AVB would have said no - so would have Martinez - I dont know anyone who would have agreed to those conditions.

Conditions, I might add that have never been successful in England.... ever.

What!? You mean Rodgers hasn't won anything for us yet? This is totally unacceptable for a Liverpool manager. I mean, why didn't he win the World Club Cup for us this weekend? What on earth is he waiting for?

Incidentally, Looney Tunes starts in five minutes on BBC2 if you're interested.

He's the nearest defender to the play there Modo, so he doesn't do his job, or rather doesn't recognise the danger when Skrtel has to come across. He should make the diagonal run to cut in and plug the gap, he doesn't. If he's marking that player who's also in range of the midfielder, he's just blocking off the lesser danger. He should tuck in straight away and cover the space vacated by Skrtel. It doesn't help that Agger is well ahead of the play either.

Allen > Lucas > Agger > Johnson in that order of blame for the 2nd.

I reckon you've missed Downing in there - I think he should be in before Johnson as well, Froggy.

Mark, you know I think you're one of the best posters on here but your obsession with marking Johnson down borders on Brendanesque when speaking of Lucas. How you think, looking at that picture, he's the closest defender to the play is perplexing to say the least.

I don’t know what he’s done to you but it must have been horrific.

He made the error with his back pass to Reina. Otherwise he was guilty of not reaching his very high standards going forward and probably trying too hard to make something happen for the team. Your constant efforts to denigrate him are tough to understand.

Er, they are experienced managers. Haven't you noticed? If either of them had been given the job I'd have been less unhappy. You seem to be keen on nurturing untried talent. I'm not. I care about LFC remainiing a great club.

Look you tiresome fish burying idiot. I mentioned Van Gaal because I was asked for a name in fucking December. Keep up. Is he my ideal choice? Of course not. Now go back to banging on doors with your bible and flashing your mad eyes.

I know you're annoyed macca but there's no need to resort to insults. Ta.

Understood. Can you make him move somewhere dangerous? Or me. Yes, that's it. Do it for me. Send me. I hate this life. And I'm sick of the fish. Book me somewhere doomed. Anfield. That's it.
