Well, at least according to Begovic himself.

- I will start training towards the new Season on the 10th of July - with the Liverpool players.

Personally I think that's quite a good signing, but could of course mean the end of Reina. Would be sad to see him leave.

Yeah perhaps and apologies if already posted elsewhere by Binny.

Club dismiss newspaper reports linking Asmir Begovic with move away
STOKE CITY have dismissed a national newspaper report claiming Asmir Begovic is on the verge of completing a close season move to Liverpool.
It had been suggested that the Bosnian goalkeeper had told the media in his home country he would be joining Liverpool in time for pre-season training in July.
But Stoke City's Chief Executive Tony Scholes has moved quickly to refute the report.
He explained: "Asmir's agent rang me as soon as these stories surfaced. He assures me that Asmir doesn't know the Bosnian journalist and has certainly never spoken to him.
"It's complete fabrication and unfortunately it has been picked up by a paper in this country.
"It's inevitable when a manager parts company with a Club that there's a period of uncertainty and erroneous newspaper reports certainly don't help matters."

Neither do I. It isn't that he's a bad player, but you just know they'll charge us well over what he's really worth and I'd sooner we spent that kind of money on top quality rather than someone merely decent.

Begovic is a great player - He was in my fantasy football all season and scored me shed loads of points. Those FF points don't lie....

Stoke City are prepared to let their highly-regarded goalkeeper Asmir Begovic leave the Britannia this summer.

However, the Bosnia international will only be sold if their valuation of £12m is met.

In a difficult season for the Potters, which ended with the departure of manager Tony Pulis, Begovic stood out as a top performer.

That led to speculation over a possible move away, with a host of clubs that include Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool suggested as possible destinations.

Chairman Peter Coates has revealed that Stoke would not stand in his way should he want to move on.

"We think we've got as good as any goalkeeper in the Premier League. He’s better than nearly everyone I can think of, so these guys will be in demand.

"He’s very ambitious and wants to do well. I don’t think a football club can stand in the way of Manchester United and that ilk. If they come in for him and the money is okay for us we would do it, but there is no pressure to sell.

"Asmir might get approached and we might feel he should be let go. We expect him to be here next year."

At United and City, Begovic could expect to play understudy to David De Gea and Joe Hart respectively, and it seems unlikely such a move would appeal to the 25-year-old.

At Arsenal, there is uncertainty over the mentality of Wojciech Szczesny to hold the number one jersey, and at Liverpool there is speculation Jose Reina could depart for Barcelona - a move dependent on whether Victor Valdes remains at the Nou Camp.

The decision on whether to let Begovic leave will be influenced by new manager Mark Hughes, but with England stopper Jack Butland in reserve, Stoke have a ready-made replacement.

I think we could do better than Begovic for whatever we would potentially pay for him, but we could also do a lot worse.

I haven't seen enough of him to judge whther he'd be a good signing or not but we shouldn't be held to ransom on this one. Stoke have already signed his replacement (Butland) and I doubt they want (or can afford) to have 2 assets worth £6m+ when only one can play. If we're genuinely interested in him we should offer them a take-it-or-leave-it £8m.

Maybe I'm just being stingy, but I would probably offer closer to half that amount. If Reina is staying on for another season, it's hard to justify investing that much in Begovic when there are so many young keepers available at more reasonable fees.

I agree but I'm assuming that, if we are thinking of buying him, it's because Reina's leaving. If Reina stays then we don't need Bergovic.

Edit: Also I'm not sure any of the decent young keepers (and there's very few of them) would be much cheaper. In recent seasons I've advocated buying Jaaskaleinen and Speroni; both of whom would have been freebies (or near enough) and both of them would have accepted a "back-up" role in exchange for seeing out their career at LFC. Both have have very good seasons since.

Edit 2: Not Jaaskaleinen and Speroni at the same time btw, I suggested Jaaskaleinen 2 seasons ago and Speroni last season.
