I went and watched Melbourne Victory vs Perth Glory tonight before our game.

Jesus Christ Aussie football is woeful.

The concepts of defending, tackling, getting tight or goalkeeping are completely lost down here.

The game ended 6-2 could have been 20-7

Melbourne have once nice chant thats goes around the ground though started at the North stand and going East South West and North again.

Really lifted the crowd.

That standard isn't too flash.

You do get some cracking games though time to time - in terms of score line and footballing quality - but not enough on a regular basis ... and hopefully this will come with time and as Australia's growth in the Asian Confederation continues.

And did you see the state of the pitch in the Melbourne v Perth game? To say it was an absolute disgrace is an understatement! ... how anyone can play joga bonito football on that is beyond me 😱

Melbourne's 3rd goal was excellant and Perth's 2nd. The rest were woeful defending.

You been watching the league over the years?

I will agree that the quality of football has gone downhill - it's much more physical now.

The league sorely misses the likes:

Dwight Yorke
Milton Rodriguez
Fred
Shenqing Qu
Joel Griffith
Nick Carle
Dario Vidosic

I watched it on the telly. The defending was comical especially from our boys (Perth). I though Melbourne were going to score every time they got in our half.
I like that Fernandez/Hernandez, he's a great player to watch.

Of the 15 man Victory squad from last night's game, I've played against or with 12 of them. I've even scored against them.

That right there tells you everything you need to know about the quality of the A-League.

I play golf with a few of the players, and get free tickets to all games. I still don't even go to see them. It's a waste of an evening.

Did you play in the one of the state leagues? What level?

Which players?

All bar Kruse, Moss, Leijer and someone else I've forgotten.

Victorian State League.

EDIT: Angulo's the other. And Langerak saved a penalty from me once. Cunt.

Cool.

Well the standard won't be much higher than state leagues but that in itself is due to the salary cap and foreign player quota at each club.

Like I said... as the game grows, and with that will come a higher salary cap and the ability to attract better foreigners and produce better local players.
