Ozil signed a contract extension until 2021. They have bought Aubameyang, Mkhitaryan and Lacazette this season. Wilshere came back from the hospitals and loans and suddenly started looking like the player everyone was expecting him to become. I think Mkhitaryan will fit into Wenger's system much better than in Mourinho's (or Klopp's for that matter).

Yes, they have problems in defense, midfield and increasingly at GK too, but no team is perfect. For a team that was supposedly dead and buried, they’ve managed to strengthen quite nicely even while losing their best player. Aubameyang in particular is exactly the kind of signing fans have been screaming at Wenger to make for years and finally he’s made it – twice (because Lacazette is also exactly that kind of a signing). Ozil looked to be a goner, but now he’s staying. They lost Sanchez, but probably improved the attack overall; for sure with Mkhitaryan and Ozil interchanging they will be playing some lovely football and Auba and Lacazette up front should give them cutting edge they were previously missing.

I really don’t know how they pulled it off being in 6th place with no CL (probably by throwing large sums of money at players and agents, which goes against their previous philosophy), but maybe it’s too early to discount Arsenal quite yet. At the very least Spurs should be worried.

Lacazette,auba, Mkh, Ozil.

They will lose as many games 4/5-0 as they win them with that work rate.

How are they going to fit Ozil and Mikhitaryan in the same team?

Kind of like Alli and Eriksen at Spurs, one centrally, one nominally on the flank, but drifting all over. It's a good problem to have.

They’re 8 points behind us. Not sure if Auba is enough to close that gap, not while the rest of the team is piss poor.
Their main worry must be how their so easily bullied and out fought, Auba wont help in that departement.

Wilshere doesn't make up for that piss weak midfield, and signing a 28 year old striker for a club record when you have Lacazette and Giroud is hardly the best use of cash. Linnet also is a massive step down from Sanchez.

They've spent a lot of money, but completely in the wrong places for me, and with massive risk because Linnet has already shown hes struggling to adapt to the league, and auba, who's past his peak and 28, is a huge risk.

I bet Ozil bent them over a barrel too.

Who the fuck in Linnet?

I was thinking the same thing as Rurik. The rest of you are being overly dismissive.

Everyone thought they were fucked but they've actually handled things pretty well and managed to strengthen at what we're told is an impossible time of year.

It's not just Spurs that should be worried.

When we were linked with Konoplyanka, lots of articles were in Russian / Ukrainian. When you put these pages through google translate, it translated Konoplyanka to Linnet. In a moment of stupidity, I confused Konoplyanka and Mkhitaryan.

So their front four is LMAO.

With Lacazette, Ozil, Mikitikiwhatever and Abamyamadingdong, they have pretty exciting attacking options.

But like us, they need a DM, a new CB and a goalkeeper.

The second half of the season should be interesting, because it does seem as if the positions between 2nd and 6th are every very tight and anything could happen.

I don't understand a player who wanted CL football moving to Arsenal.

They need to replace both CB's, GK and need a decent CM.

They have a long way to go.

He was considering a move to China so I'm guessing we know that a decent wedge was going to be pretty tempting.

He's a good player, Aubameyang, but as Marcotti said it is a bit of a weird one - as the sole interested party Arse managed to spend £60m on a 29yr old player who seems to have disciplinary issues and a bit of an attitude problem - and who directly competes with their summer signing who was also a transfer record (even though at the same time Auba was being shopped around like mad by Borussia).

Why didn't he go to China so

Apparently Chinese clubs have wised up to players coming for massive wages and offering little return for the investment. I think there has even been some legislation there to control the inflated spending- Froggy I think knows about this.

These are the new rules from 2017;

China has cut the number of foreign footballers allowed to play in each match from four to three per team as it seeks to boost development of domestic players and rein in excessive spending by clubs, which has distorted the global transfer market and added to fears about capital outflows.

China's Football Association announced on Thursday that any club that pays more than 45 million renminbi (€5.9m, £5.2m) for a player transfer must pay the same amount to a CFA youth development fund. The tax will be in place until the end of the Chinese league's summer transfer window on July 14.
Transfers for Chinese players valued at over 20m renminbi (€2.6m, £2.3m) will also be taxed at 100 percent.

There we go. That's a disincentive if ever I saw one.

Whilst undoubtedly doing better than I had envisaged it's come too late for this season, they are going to finish 6th even if they manage to close the gap somewhat. They are 8 points adrift of us with only 13 games to go and they still have Spurs (A), City (H) and United (A) to come plus their away record has been absolutely horrendous. They would not only need to go on a winning run (draws won't help) but hope that one of the Top 5 go on a losing one. I expect them to finish 3-4 points away from 4th.

They are 8 points behind us, they've got to make three wins out of thirteen back over us, it's a massive ask. Also, if we drop that many points were fucked anyway as Spurs will overtake us. They have strengthened well, and to be honest that could be to our advantage as they have still to play Spurs and a couple of others around us, but have played us twice already.
