Apparently the pain could be all in his mind!

The Italy international has started only eight times for Liverpool since his ¤20m arrival from Roma and is sidelined with an ankle injury sustained in training on Wednesday. Aquilani has complained of discomfort in the same ankle that required surgery last May and which forced him to miss the first three months of this season, although scans have so far failed to identify the cause of the problem. Benítez admits he is at a loss as to when the 25-year-old will be fit but indicated that a history of injury problems is affecting Aquilani.

"He was complaining of pain in his ankle and said he couldn't train," the Liverpool manager said. "We will have to talk with the doctors to see what's going on because at the moment we don't know."

There are concerns that the Italian, ear-marked as the natural replacement for Xabi Alonso in a season that opened amid high expectation at Anfield, will be absent for the rest of this campaign should he undergo exploratory surgery. But Benítez said: "We don't know if he needs an operation. He has some pain and we will just analyse that with the doctor. It's the same ankle he did before. Some players maybe can manage with the pain, some players when they have pain cannot. When you talk of pain you never know, it depends on each individual and that makes it really difficult."/quote]

i still cant believe we paid so much for someone so injury prone.. blows my mind everytime i think about it.

When you consider the other players for sale last season who went for half the price and there were no doubts over their fitness. mind boggling..

i think Aqua needs to go and see Dirk's Dr.. the fellow who hammers all of his bones back into place twice a year. It wouldnt suprise me if half of Aqua's problem is mental due to the amount of times he has been injured previously.. but.... I recall tearing my medical ligament quite badly and for years afterwards i would still be very aware of the subtle difference and the occasional odd sensation after long runs.. Scar tissue forms on the ligaments and i'm presuming this can cause some discomfort if the ligament is used regularly and could cause weakness in the ligament itself. The obvious problem with the ankle is the fact that it takes a substancial beating constantly. Not only do the ligaments get stretched in every which way but the impact forces would be huge too. The ankle is always under a lot of force and with Aqua being a midfielder he would be turning quickly constantly loading massive amounts of pressure on already damaged ligaments..

so all in all... poor bastard but i still cant believe we signed him for such a large fee.

In fairness, Rafa will be comparing Purple to Carragher there, but it still doesn't make for pretty reading. Would anyone bid 10M for him at the moment? I doubt it. Roma are laughing all the way to the bank.

why? did we not structure the deal based on appearances? we clearly did not shell out 17m in a lump sum.

You would be amazed. The very least we will pay for him is circa 18M, with it rising to something like 22M. Lump sums have little to do with it.

£18m regardless of appearances (in instalments, just like 99% of other transfers), 300k for every 35 appearances up to 140. 300k every time we qualify for the CL, 300k every time we win an FA Cup or Carling Cup. 1m if we win a league or CL.

So a minimum of £18m and potentially up to about £25m but the likelihood is he costs us less than 19m because he's clearly not going to be available to play much.

Hahaha

There's alot dispute about the amount we paid for Aquilani given we bought him injured and has had a history of injuries. However, I recently spoke to some one who has connections with Liverpool football and i was told we actually only paid approx 5million up front for Aquilani and the remaining fee depended appearances and other terms. I dont know whether there is any truth in this but to be honest it would makes sence. Just thought id put that out there.

to be honest I think aqua will have a good preseason (if he doesn't crock himself at the WC) and force himself into the first team especially for home games.

How much have we paid so far? 5m? 10m?
Say we were to sell him to Juventus for 12m this summer and pay Roma 5% (600k). Would we have made a small profit (minus wages) on him? Or would we still owe Roma the rest of the supposed 18m fee?

We have to pay all the instalments of the transfer regardless of how long we keep him. It's no different from any other transfer we've ever done.

[/quote] If you buy a new car and then write it off, you still have to pay the monthly instalments. In short - why would the car dealership give a fuck that the buyer screwed up? Life isn't a charity.

Well, I was thinking that if I went to a used dealer and saw a ferrari that was broken, that's had all sorts of problems in the past, and looked very likely to break down in the future, I might be able to get a deal going with the dealer so I wouldn't have to pay full price should things go horribly wrong.
Not the greatest of examples but you get the picture. I can't believe LFC management haven't got a clause in there. They surely have. We're only going by what the Roma website reported, right? I imagine they will only have reported on the positive notes and left out the potentially negative ones in order to appease the supporters after losing their favourite player.

If such a clause existed Rafa definitely would have made it public by now. The one thing he is actually good at is getting his little bits of info into a debate so the cult has something to grasp onto.

We're a badly run club, from top to bottom. Nobody should be surprised at another expensive transfer mistake by Rafa.

The Purple Shithouse is the biggest transfer disaster of the season.

Everyone is laughing at us.

I only hope we can get £10m for this joke in summer, which will give our new manager a bit more cash to play with.
