So I am taking the plunge from moving from contract work to permanent work..
Most people (contractors) think I am mad.. but I can do without the looking for a new job every 6 months.. I tend to be lucky from time to time, contracts come to me..
But with a baby on the way and a mortgage to maintain.. I cannot be bothered with the contract aspect anymore and living out of a suitcase..
I am in the IT industry.. the lucrative contracts always tend to be in Manchester... a place due to logistic reasons, I would prefer to avoid working..
Stability is a key factor... and the fact I want to be closer to home with a baby on the way and a disabled daughter to care for..
Anyway I have been to 5 interviews over the last 2 months so far.. and applied for countless roles..
1 Didn't like the fact I turned up in my smart NHS work uniform.. smart as it is.. and yes first impressions count.. I thought it was a little pathetic, given the interviewer was dressed in casual wear.. That being said lesson learnt...
1.Wasn't for me, location & job role.. 1 interview could not deny my experience, suitable for the role.. but felt I would treat the role as a stepping stone to my next contract.. despite the fact I said in the interview I am seeking permanent employment for stability and to progress my career
2 I got to the second stage. one I got exceptionally close.. and was pipped to the post by a chap who carried a qualification I did not have, despite doing talk and emphasising on the said subject 'Cyber Essentials'.. The other, could not get their head around, yes you guessed it.. wanting to move from being a contractor to a permanent role...
So any advice chaps.. I am going a little mad... I feel being a contractor for years, is somewhat hindering me...
