It’s looking good ! Drone views courtesy of Mister Drone U.K.

Liverpool’s ongoing Anfield Road End expansion project appears to be increasingly taking shape as we head deeper into the second-half of the 2021/22 campaign.
Drone footage shared online shares multiple shots of the completed lift shafts on either side of the building work with several storeys apparently added.

Plans remain set to reach fruition come the summer of 2023, increasing the ground’s capacity by a considerable 7,000 souls ahead of Jurgen Klopp’s potential final season in charge of the Reds.

I heard someone on momo's favourite podcast say they have resurfaced Anfield rd about 30 times in the last year as they have to reopen it for match days etc.

FSG I guess could look to expand further. The Sir Kenny Dalglish has parking behind it and a row of 10 houses. I know the few years back bought large chunk of houses and properties near the stadium - if they were thinking ahead they would have bought properties on Skerries Road as well. Even now, the value is under £150k.
I am guessing the biggest hurdle to a 70k stadium is the City's insistence the club pay for upgrades for Mersey Rail.

Probably at that point there just wouldn't be a return. New KD stand might add 10k or so, but is there demand for additional executive seating such that helped pay for the main stand? Not sure tbh. Plus footing the bill for infrastructure costs.

I guess it might be worth it if they could add another say 8k to the kop to get us up around 80k, but then I'm not sure if we even fill that much.

We'd fill 70k easily. 80k may be a stretch on a regular basis.

I suppose if safe standing came in, maybe they could expand the Kop enough to get it up around 20k. I don't know, I'm not sure how much safe standing adds tbh.

I just tend to doubt the investment in infrastructure would be justified by just an extra 10k or so.

Corporate boxes normally get gobbled up by corporate events companies who then resell them on. Having worked for a bank, I know of Sales Directors would court clients using football games,
I googled the price of a box for 5 hours, and its £4500 + tax or £5400. So between 10 people its £540pp.

I think this is spot on. I'm sure I heard that if we push beyond the projected 60k post Annie Road then we'd have to fork out a fortune on infrastructure (there was even the suggestion there'd need to be a rail link to the stadium).
Plus there's an issue with the Kenny, and it has to do with seating standards. As anyone regular will know, the leg and elbow room in there is shocking. If we were to look to expand the stand we'd likely have to re-profile it as with the Main Stand, and we'd lose quite a lot of the existing seating in there (new seats would be wider with more leg-room). Plus, due to the height of the stand at present, the steel cost would be high. Basically, we'd need to pretty much demolish what's already there and build a new one, like the Main Stand, and there just isn't the footprint to do that. Plus it would be prohibitively expensive relative to the seats added, and we'd lose a load of revenue from hospitality during the construction phase.
The Kop can't go back any further because it would end up sticking out over Breck Road and I just don't see that a second tier would work.
So I expect that once the Annie Road is done, other than some minor upgrades where existing space might allows (e.g. they might fine some corners to fill in like they did with the Kop a few years back) then that's pretty much it.
And let's be honest, 60k is a pretty good size relative to other clubs. The business model for going beyond that just doesn't work so unless we get taken over by a shady sugar daddy who doesn't care about return on investment then we're done.

Sounds about right to me. I think doing much to the Kop would be a real undertaking. Whether in theory they could build back to almost hang over the road I don't know, I'm not an engineer so I've no idea if it would even be feasible. Plus that might only yield 4k or so seats. Plus the Kop is already pretty big and the views at the back aren't great at all. My hunch is that something probably could be worked out but it'd just be very difficult and expensive.

The one small possibility MIGHT be an update of the Centenary. I'm biased because I've always hated how it looks, so I'd like a redesign. So what might be possible is that, assuming we could still benefit from expanding the corporate facilities, to make the stand bigger with lots of exec seats like the Main Stand, but with roughly the same total capacity. Get rid of the second tier and the boxes, put in a big exec tier like the Main Stand, and have a small third tier for normal fans.

Given that 60k has turned out not to be a hard limit (Annie Road takes us to over 61) then MAYBE we could go to like 65 or so, and have those new corporate seats be the major cash generator to pay back the investment.

But I'm not at all sure if all that's sound. I'd mainly just LIKE it to happen.

I think FSG has been careful not to take the capacity over a specified limit, because the City was asking the club to contribute to infrastructure spending including Mersey Rail, but will have no equity in any of the infrastructure. However, it seems the City is looking to upgrade existing line anyway. After that, probably 10years from now, if demand is still high, we could Anfield becoming close to a 70,000 seater stadium. Only time will tell.

Liverpool fans have called for train services to Anfield for a long time, arguing public transport currently available to get to the stadium doesn't meet demand.
Those calls have only grown following an expansion of the stadium's capacity years ago, with another set to follow soon.
There is already a railway line running up towards Anfield but it is currently only used for freight traffic in and out of the port.
However, feasibility studies on reopening the line are now taking place, with hopes that the line could eventually be used for passenger traffic and provide much needed extra capacity to take fans to close to the ground.

Maybe I do not have the correct context, but I find it ridiculous that a city the size of Liverpool does not have a rail line to Stanley Park / Everton / Anfield when its two most famous exports are located there. The economic benefit of developing the area seems huge.

Likle this?

Yeah it might seem ridiculous, and that's because it is. There's a line still there from zillions of years ago. Would need a bit of work and this isn't London.

We need a new ground. How the fuck can Everton be getting a world-class stadium and we are renovating Anfield. It's a joke.

You're trolling! Before lockdown matchday revenue was £95m almost

They're hoping post expansion, the stadium will generate an additional £40m, So you're looking at around £140m from match day and concerts. A new stadium would have cost £600m plus, which would have limited transfer spend

Oh yeh defo..
when I first read it I thought it was sabotage by some opposition LOL
but yeh relieved it was an accident and hopefully everyone ok 🙂

How the fuck do you ‘accidentally’ crash into the shankly gates? They may not be the largest in the world but they’re pretty fucking big and you need a reason to drive through them in the first place

Fuck knows how it happened, maybe all will be revealed at a later date

I predict when and if there is approval by Central Government to fund the upgrade of Mersey Rail, I think a few years after, LIverpool will seek planning permission for another expansion. I say this as they own the houses on Skerries Road. I would imagine they would want the stadium capacity to be close to 70K. Obviously, the club would need to be challenging and winning trophies
