Thought this deserved it's own thread TBH, as I find it really interesting & was wondering what everyone thought about it.

Everton have appointed Carlo Ancelotti as their manager on a four-and-a-half-year contract.
The Italian, who was sacked by Napoli earlier this month, succeeds Marco Silva, who was dismissed by the Goodison Park club on 6 December.
Ancelotti, a three-time Champions League-winning coach, returns to English football eight and a half years after he was sacked by Chelsea.
"There's a clear vision from the owner to deliver success," he said.

Everton announced Ancelotti's arrival on Saturday before the home Premier League game against Arsenal, who appointed former Gunners and Toffees midfielder Mikel Arteta as their head coach on Friday.
Ancelotti was at Goodison Park for the Arsenal match (12:30 GMT kick-off) and will officially take over on Sunday.
The 60-year-old's first match in charge will be the home game against Burnley on 26 December.

I imagine they have promised him a few quid for signigs and he should be able to use his influence to get players of a higher calibre than they would normally sign.

Personally, I think it's a gamble, but I get it, they've been through a shitload of managers recently, all failed, after spending BIG money (500m in the last four years I think), & must have paid out huge compensation to managers during that time.

In that respect, the owner probably thinks it's a fair deal, cos obv a manager with that pedigree is more likely to succeed. However, I'm confused by the choice, has he ever worked with the players of the standard Everton currently have? He's clearly tactically brilliant, & our match against them will now be much harder, but this seems a very different prospect to the jobs he's had before, which involved getting star players to perform in the way he wants them to & then using his tactical nous to get the best out of them.

I just don't know whether he's a good 'fit' for them.

Will Moshiri back him in massive fashion with big-name players? If so, they could be in trouble financially, cos they're running at about 80% turnover to wages as it stands (if the thing I read earlier in the week is to be believed), & if FFP has any teeth left at all, they're gonna surely run into trouble there.

What @Bradley said, assurances have definitely been made but I’m still amazed he has gone there.

strangely it seems like bad timing. i think the fans and players are responding to Ferguson right now, a poor start for Ancelotti might compare badly to that.

Esp stylistically, cos Everton fans LOVE that backs to the wall, dogs of war bollocks, & Ancelotti is obv a more nuanced manager, & will want a more pragmatic style, if that isnt getting results will they start their usual booing, or give him time thanks to his record?

I heard his first club was some lowly team in Italy, Regina or something. So unlike Pep or Jose he's had a taste of success with shite teams and done enough to climb the ladder.

I'd say it's a lot less risky than keeping Ferguson on, going for an up and coming manager or going back to a Moyes, safe pair of hands type.

It's gonna be expensive whatever happens!

It’s good for them to get him before the transfer window, maybe good signings will make them more patient. That’s totally right though they want that Moyesesque nightmare to play against approach back, they’re not getting that.

He’s a great manager and will have a hugely positive impact on them. If the owners continue to invest at the same rate they have over the last few years, they’ll do well. I’m sure they’ll endow him with a few bob in the forthcoming window, so it’ll be interesting to see just what he can achieve in the short term.

I think you are right, Ancelotti's influence on top of new money could attract the kind of signings they need. I never truly thought they would be relegated, despite dreaming of it, but now even that tiny possibility seems to have gone. If Ancelotti can instil some footballing identity to the team, beyond the bluff and bluster, they might even be able to put some pressure on the likes of Burnley, Brighton and Bournemouth this season.

It's like Arse and Everton got things the wrong way around. A tactically clever up and comer, former Everton player in Arteta could have been a good fit for the Blues, whilst Ancelotti could have imposed structure upon an Arsenal side that has plenty of quality, but no guts and a lack of defensive nous. Who knows what's going to happen.

Ancelotti at Everton will be like an episode of kitchen nightmares. He'll be swearing at everyone wondering why there are pubes on the cooker. Big Dunk running off crying saying it's his baby. Happy ending is Carlo fucking off after six months with 20 million. Everton relegated.

I guess the point of this is to ease his son, Davide Ancelloti, into the role. He was involved in the setup at Real Madrid and was assistant coach at Bayern

He’ll have to bring in Decent players who won’t be able to play in Europe which could be hard.

He certainly is a Hollywood manager that the chairman and fans have been crying out for.
Massive coup for the Everton. A bit harsh on Dunc who has done well as caretaker manager

They need a proper director of football to rebuild, if not that owner and every manager that comes in will just spend aimlessly.
