We need to adopt a system of play that allows for players to come in and perform at a high level when others are out. As such, I wouldn't want to build a team around one or a handful of players. We need to improve on quality all across the pitch, let alone the centre midfield.

That's exactly what I didn't understand when Alonso moved there. He's still getting shitloads of sticks in Basque country from what I've heard.

I knew we'd feel the loss of alonso but not to the extent we did. it's also worth noting that when alonso had his best season in a liverpool shirt we were a whisker away from the title. rafa's best signing imho including pepe and torres.
