The best goalkeeper I've personally seen play for Liverpool. You can feel the trust his teammates have in him – even after an inevitable mistake here and there it's absolutely unshaken. After the final whistle everyone ran to him, just like Klopp ran to him after Origi's winner against Everton. Quietly, he's become one of leaders of this team, one whose authority cannot be questioned.

The stats back this up: 21 clean sheets out of 38 league games. 6 out of 13 in the Champions League, including the decisive group stage game against Napoli, decisive game against Barcelona at home and the final. His distribution quality has been good rather than exceptional, but he is in category of his own in shot-stopping:

He needs a song and a nickname.

It's possible we would have won more trophies if we had signed a keeper of his quality (or even anywhere near) a few years earlier, while we had Mignolet and Karius fucking things up.

But as everyone had been saying for years, we needed a genuinely top quality goalkeeper and a centre half too. It may have cost us 140m quid, but they've been fully worth the outlay.

They have both been superlative this season, and got the reward they deserved at the end.

He's fucking brilliant. I liked Reina, but this guy is even better.

A wall? Nah, things bounce back off a wall. This fucker holds everything. Best keeper in the world for me. He's not as acrobatic as some of the others, but he doesn't need to be. He's always in the right place.

Him and Virgil are my two favourite players, I think. It's tough choosing from this bunch.

I always thought "spectacular" acrobatic saves were overrated – surely positioning and reflexes are the two most important qualities for the GK as far as shot-stopping. Alisson is near the very top in both.

BTW if we're looking for a great #2 worthy of playing in the important cup competitions, I would love to get Fabianski. Consistently one of the most underrated EPL keepers.

There was nothing special about his saves in the final - you would expect your keeper to make those saves.

What was impressive though was the technical aspect of those saves - each shot was saved & the ball was removed from the danger area, there was never any risk of a follow up attempt.

The angle save from Son - tipped around for a corner.

The long distance save from Son - deflected it wide.

As I said you expect any keeper to make those saves - but not every keeper would remove the follow up danger with each save as he did time after time.

It never looks special when Alisson saves it because that's how fucking good he is. Everything looks easy because he already put himself in position before you looked.

If Karius was in the final, Spurs would be champions of Europe now.

This is the best thing about him. He’s ALWAYS in the right place.

He doesn’t ever make the glamorous saves cause he’s never out of place to have to stretch to get the ball. He makes everything look so simple and easy.

I preferred Reina and at times this season he has given me flutters and on a couple of occasions, I've felt he has been overly excessively reluctant to come and collect a ball or clear it...

But to be critical of a man who has so many clean sheets and has also made some excellent saves and also distributed so well so often, he makes sure the easy stuff is kept in the easy category, distributes well and quickly and also makes good saves. He is a really good keeper.

Above all FINALLY having a goaly who doesn't scare the shit out of the fans and the defenders (Mignolet) is such a welcome change...

What I’ve been most impressed with is the fact he’s made some mistakes and bounced back immediately.

That’s what we’ve missed for a long time.

It will be interesting to see how he handles his first prelonged period of poor performance.

If he can get past that then he could be heat for a long time.

Except Karius.

According to Karius, this video is why he got the boot from Liverpool

What's the old school word for this? Poncey?

I was furious when he put that out. I would've got shut immediately after the final. If not then, then that video would've definitely done the trick.

That video is brilliant with Baywatch music. Brilliant.

Thank God he put the video up. And thank God Klopp got shot of him.

After 2 horrific howlers you would karius would keep his head down and come back for pre season stronger. Instead he made a dumb video. tbf it was a poor choice by klopp in sticking with him, it cost us a massive trophy.

I think Salah's injury was just as instrumental to the loss as the Karius errors. Lallana was plainly not ready and we were essentially playing with 10 men and having lost all momentum in attack since the injury – without the Karius horror show it would have been closer, but most likely Real would have edged it anyway.
