Bar a few games, Xabi has been anonymous.

Correction: Bar a few moments in a few games, he's been extremely average (and that's pushing it). My mate in Spain, although he's an Atleti fan, says Xabi just doesn't fit into Madrid's system and that he's struggled to impose himself on any games - which is what I've felt when I've seen him.
I think Xabi made a mistake by leaving us and I will not be surprised to see him a) left off the World Cup squad and b) sold next summer ...

I did not want to be too harsh on him LTW 🙂) but you are correct. For example I started watching this weekends game from 10 minutes onwards. I did not even realize that Xabi was playing for a long time. Quite unlike Liverpool where everything used to run through him. However, his reputation will ensure that he will be selected for the World Cup squad. I would wait a couple of months before writing off his Madrid career.
Xabi is a tactical managers dream. However, Pellegrini is struggling to impose his methods on Madrid. Benzema has reportedly come out and criticized that he cannot play with Raul.
Ronaldo's goals have been hiding the deficiencies of the squad. When he is injured the entire team's frailties are exposed. If Madrid continue playing like this, then I think Xabi will rue his move. I really would not be surprised if we can get a bidding war started between Madrid and Barcelona for Mascherano, next summer. Coz looks like they need him more than Xabi.
