Apparently he's brilliant (According to Gerrard) Plays left back for the under 18's. Can't be much worse than Moreno. Anyone seen much of him? First I've heard of him to be honest.

He might not be worse than Moreno, mate, but putting him into an underfunctioning back four like ours (at the mo anyway) might risk ruining the lad. Have him in the first team squad for a game or two, possibly even on the bench in selected fixtures, but I wouldn't want to throw him in the deep end until we're doing better.

I'm reluctant to give any weight to Gerrard's opinions on players at the minute

Gerrard was bigging him up saying he MIGHT lose him to the U23 soon. He is too far from the first team. Maybe in 2 years he might start knocking on the door if he is any good.

No I get that but it seems we have a rather glutton of young talent around. This kid just appeared out of nowhere for me but it appears he's held in very high regard - @gkmacca - Is he any good?

Oh yes, mate, he's very promising. I was a bit surprised and disappointed that Gerrard bigged him up quite as much as he did, because it's going to put quite a burden on his shoulders from now on in terms of attention and expectation, but Stevie's certainly right about his promise. He's a local lad - Prescot, I think - and has been at the club since youth level. He recently seemed to have a growth spurt that allowed him to become a much more mature-looking and strong player, which I think accounts for his 'overnight' impact. Actually he's looked good for several years (evolving from a Jon Flanagan-type hard tackler into something more elegant and versatile), then his progress was interrupted when he fractured his leg, but it's been since he returned that he's seemed to just improve rapidly from month to month. I'm not sure he'll stay at left back (he certainly didn't start there), and I suspect he could blossom into a ball-playing CB or perhaps a defensive midfielder, because his vision and distribution are excellent.

As always GK - You're a scholar and a gentlemen. Cheers for the heads up. 🙂
