Wow, thank god that cluster fuck of a season is over, the question is what the is collateral damage going to be? We are carrying more than the average dead wood, our local captain is leaving, and we have a manager who's more into his mid life crisis dolly bird than managing our team. Let me be honest, until today I was in the "give him one more year" camp... Today has tipped me into the "we need an experienced manager" camp.

Last season he dared bring up how Spurs squandered the Bale money, well sir, I think you've done more than twice the damage, well done. I'm not going to sit here and say we should get x million for him and y million for another. Because in all likelihood we are in a mire right now in more ways than one... what I will say is that Rodgers will be a very lucky man if Henry et al. Decide there isn't better options out there, and even if he does the objective for next season must be clear. Win a trophy or bust.

I do absolve him for any blame on the Sterling/Ward Gate saga, he's been backed into a corner and all he can pretty much say is "He's not for sale" to try and get as much as possible for him. Anything else said would lower the value of the asset.

Realistically the only players that should feel safe after this season are Coutinho, Can, Ibe and Henderson. Hardly the foundations to build upon is it? We could do a overhaul again this summer, boot 10 out, bring 10 in... but in all honesty that's not going to get us anywhere. Do we now accept we are at Tottenham's level and no more? I feel dirty just thinking about it... we deserve more.

The truth of the matter is this, we can't look back. All the people who are in bring Rafa back are deluded, here is a man who sold Xabi Alonso to get Gareth Barry... moreover Napoli are hardly setting the world on fire over in Serie A are they? If we do go for a new manager, we won't attract the likes of Ancelloti who would have a genuine chance of taking us forward, it's flattering to even be linked with Klopp to be honest, however money talks and Turkish clubs seem to throw money at managers these days.

Playing personal it's a similar story, we will be sat at the bottom of the table with the begging bowl, agents using us like some cheap whore to get any champions league first teamer a new contract or as bait to lure a bigger fish out of the water, step forward Vidal or Jese and we'll be sorely disappointed with each and every passing of an A list target, eager to point the finger at FSG, Ayres, Rodgers... delete as appropriate. We do have a chance however of getting players from these teams who are out of favour step forward Cech, Walcott.. players who would better our team no doubt, but unless we want to break the wage structure of the club, refer to my point above about disappointment.

Then there's the second tranche of players who are frozen out altogether from abroad, like Marc Bartha, or, Sami Khedira or Asier Illarramendi, would be welcomed with open arms here, but one look at a 6-1 thrashing and they'll be giving us a wide swerve.

So what can we expect this summer? In a word, more of the same as this year, players from Portugal, Holland and Ukraine etc... where they use clubs like Porto or Kiev like stepping stones, they see us as a stepping stone again, we aren't a final destination, and that is the stark reality here. Or we dip down a division, pick up the talent and hope one or two come off, step forward Bamford (albeit Chelsea owned) or Hughes from Derby.

Before the last half a dozen games of the season, I'd have said the following areas need to be a priority in this order, Keeper, Striker x 2, Central Midfielder and Right Back. Pretty much a spine if you take out the RB. It's just going to frustrate all of us being linked with world class talent but ending up with plan z or leftfield picks to fill positions if we stick with Rodgers.

Sorry if this seems like a ramble, I just wanted to put some thoughts down to fellow Liverpool fans and wanted to know your thoughts, but it does seem like we are further away than ever from getting #19, it could well be another 25 years of pain.

I think you are being too pessimistic mate. Things are really not as bad as they were made to look today. There is a decent amount of latent talent in our squad. I am sure of. A good manager with a sound footballing philosophy will be able to get more out of this squad with a decent striker. It is very difficult to evaluate how good we are when we play 10 different formations with the wrong players in the wrong position.

But the key is to hire a good manager and revamp our footballing infrastructure - the way we do transfers. If the owners want Klopp, I am confident we can get him especially if he is true about wanting to coach in England.

Today was a great game to blood the likes of Brannagan, Sinclair, Ojo or Wilson if he so wished, at least if he played those and we got battered 6-1 we'd have a bit of hope. Like you say though, Rodgers has no set formation, he's clearly lost the dressing room.

The man came in claiming he'd been left a godawful squad. Well, is he leaving a squad that's better? I don't think so. Far less experience. A weaker defence. A weaker midfield (albeit with Coutinho and a few bright prospects at youth level). A practically non-existent forward line. I wouldn't emphasise it but he spent the best part of two years (if truth be told, he was back at it last autumn!) making out he'd been stuck with some kind of horrendous bunch of donkeys.Well. that terrible squad had won a cup and got to another final and, for all its failings, had plenty of experience and fight. What has Rodgers compiled? A squad full of wimps, easily bullied and easily beaten. Thanks, Brendan, mate. You might want to apologise to your predecessors on your way out.

I don't think the squad is as bad as is made out. Playing people in position would be an improvement. We've suffered badly from Sturridge's injuries so a top striker is a must. Sticking to a settled back four is also a must. With a few good additions and a manager who knows what he's doing we'll see an improvement I'm sure.

Do we now accept we are at Tottenham's level and no more? I feel dirty just thinking about it... we deserve more.

Tottenham have finished above us five times out of the last six seasons - so we aren't even at their level. This makes me sad

At least Rafa would only play one player out of position to make a political point. Rodgers plays about six.

It's easy to lose perspective at times like these. It seems like there the feeling is that everything is fucked and we have to start over from scratch. That's not the case.

We've been a "stepping stone" for a good many years now. We're a big club but we don't challenge for trophies and we can no longer pay top whack - two rather big problems when you're trying to attract and keep the very best.

We're not going to be signing top tier players any time soon but we kinda knew that anyways. The ones in the rung below will still jump at at the chance to join us and won't really give a fuck about a meaningless end of season thrashing.

The key thing this summer is to get our house in order. If FSG are going to sack Rodgers, they need to do it quickly. We also need to bring in a smooth operator to work behind the scenes because at the very least it would seem like we can improve upon what we're doing presently though I don't really have much confidence in FSG doing this.

In terms of playing personnel, we're not that badly off. We have a lot of young players caught up in a difficult season. Last summer was a massive disappointment but thankfully we're at least left with players that are generally worth something and talented - it's not like we're carrying a load of Poulsens and Voronins.

We need a good summer. Gerrard needs replacing and we need a couple of players that the squad can rally round and inspire a bit of fight.

That's because desperate times call for desperate measures. He's lost it. He's desperate.

As a rule, as a Liverpool fan, I've found we are never as great as we think we are when things are going well, and it's never as bad as we think it is, when things are going bad

I don't think there's too much wrong with the squad. It just lacks a couple of experienced leaders and a couple of attackers. It could certainly be sorted this summer without any great heroics.

A new manager, a dominant CM and CB and a couple of forwards and we'd be fine.

Squad is better now than what was left under kd.

I agree, but BR has had nothing to do with that.

FSG have invested fairly heavily, Sterling and Ibe have come through, and the focus on youth has meant even the worst of the committee's signings have some kind of value.

Normally I'm optimistic about what we might achieve over the summer in readiness for the new season. However, I'm a bit fearful, if anything, as to where we go from here.

The first change has to be the manager. unlike others I think we are a little way off from having a great/solid 11 again. Quite conceivable we need at least 6 players. Utter shambles on togers and the committees behalf

I reckon we need;

GK, RB, CB, LB, CM, AM (goal scoring AM, possibly x2) and a CF

You cant spend 250m quid and finish 6th and expect to stay in your job.

Ive still got a feeling that they will keep him.
But he will have to be made of teflon to survive this.

It's a matter of where you can muddle through and where you can't.

I think Mignolet has looked good for long enough now that he's not a priority. Maybe ideally you'd want better but I think he'll do for another season.

Same for right back, really. Flanagan can do that once he's fit, until then Manquillo and Wisdom can just about get by. Alternatively if you think we need the RB you can muddle through with Skrtel for another year instead of signing a CB.

Midfield is fine if a strong DM is brought in.

Sturridge up front alongside 2 new £30m class attackers.

It'd be a good line up. Not title winning but a good shout for top 3/4.

I should've said, I think Moreno would be less of a liability under a new coach with a well-drilled defence, a more defensive RB, and having had this debut year.

Yeah probably right with Mings, he was shite today btw and should have done better with at least 3 of the goals.. Not sure about RB, flan out for a while, manq I'm unsure about, likewise Moreno on the opposite side. CB yes, but need another in there for comp or get ilori back as kolo is leaving. A MUST in the forward line.

I don't think we have a single world class player in our team at the moment. Even Budgie had Gerrard
