a left sided Mane?
I get the need for more goals, but Firmino is central to so much of the good stuff that happens up top. Anyone can see that, most of all Klopp, which is why he, along with Lallana are the first names on the team sheet.
Ordinarily, i would go all out for a top striker, but, that means Firmino out on the left, where he's poor. And won't score at all. So we gain direct goals from the new striker but lose all the indirect quality and work rate firmino gives us along with his 10-15 a season.
But, left sided Mane means Firmino gets to stay where he is and do what he does, but we get more goals (mane is scoring nicely) and some serious pace, trickery and directness on both wings.

Anyone know of a left sided Mane for sale?

Brandt? Seems like he's become our top target.

In answer to the question, I think we'll see Klopp go big on a left sided Mane rather than a striker. Whether we like it or not, Firmino will keep his role as the number one central striker, and I think we'll find a more bargain signing as a decent up and comer, possibly the 15-20 million mark. Whatever that might get us.

Nah coutinho is waaaay better on the middle and certainly nowhere near as effective on the left as Mane is on the right. Another reason to buy a left sided Mane as I think Cout would be ace in the middles

I can see Klopp going this way, although, it would be nice to have some competition for Firmino at least. He has none at the moment.

If Coutinho moves to the middle, where does that leave Lallana? We'd be way too lightweight in midfield if they both played there.

* I know, I know, its a squad game. But still.

Well, Lallana always runs his nadgers off and Coutinho works a lot harder now than he originally used to, but I agree we'd need more grunt in there. I'd go as far as to say a bare minimum of one, preferably two, midfield terriers should be our top priority in the summer as - provided we get the right one(s) - fetching them in will have beneficial effects right through the team.

I guess it's heavily dependant on Europe in that case. If we can get in, we can accommodate both lall and cout. Cout is too inconsistent for my liking to be an ever present anyway. Be that due to form or injury etc...

Douglas Costa if we make champions league. currently stalling on a contract at BM and would break the bank for him.

We certainly need another wide forward with pace who can run in behind and score goals, but a wide player is limited on how many goals they return. You can legitimately argue that we score enough goals at a team so why all the striker fuss, but my issue with that is we have many players who can score goals when the side is playing well. We don't have many players who can score when we are not playing well. We need someone who can poach a goal when we're up against shit at the bottom of the league. That's why signing a striker is so important.

Where that leaves Firmino, I'm not too sure. Last year I was unimpressed by his efforts in attacking midfield and thought he looked a much better player as a striker. Klopp seemed to agree. It was clear that Firmino would have to develop his finishing for him to be continue to be a success in that role. That wasn't implausible. Suarez's finishing improved beyond measure. It hasn't happened for Firmino, though. Putting aside the admirable workrate, tenacity, link up play and skill, his figures aren't impressive and I'm convinced he shouldn't be the main focus of our attack if we are to progress further.

I always maintain that squad's improved by shifting current first-teamers to the bench with better players rather than 'signing players for the squad'. I hope that happens this summer. We need it to.

We surely can't base our system around Firmino being our main striker next season, mental. We need someone that is good for 20+ goals in the team, ideally a suarez sort that offers much more than just the goals too.

Then you might be surprised. Suppose that Firmino scores enough goals to get us into Europe, then Klopp will be inclined to keep faith in him for next season. Suppose instead that he scores fuck all and we finish 7th, then Klopp will fail to attract a decent replacement for him. This is the Lucas paradox.

Do we even need a striker as priority?

We have scored more goals than any other team in the league....
For all the stats lovers out there.

16 year old Ryan Sessegnon just scored two goals for Fulham away against Newcastle.

Not in my opinion, no. I'd like us to sign one if Sturridge goes, but for me that position is some way down the list. A DM (or two), a reliable keeper, a good specialist LB and a wide attacker are all more urgent IMO.

As much as I'm partly inclined to agree with Jules, I don't think the stats come close to showing the true story of our season.

Yeah, look at our goals for column & it's tricky to argue we need a striker. However we have sat & watched this side have all the possession time & again against sides set up to defend, & have struggled to score, again & again.

A wide attacker may help with that, but as much as we need one more two) DM's, a reliable keeper, & proper LB won't help with that at all, & they're the games that have cost us dearly this season.

Imo a top class striker who can work his arse off & fit into our system could be the key to unlock those defences, & even without all those other players we all think we desperately need, we can turn the top sides over just through out working & out playing them, so perhaps with just one or two of those other players, plus that elusive striker, we would have enough to seriously compete, by beating the top sides & being able to dispatch those sides who specialise in parking the bus too.

If we do sign a wide player or two (personally I think we need two if we make the CL), then Mane could also be an option down the middle. Remember that he has played as a striker for the Saints and is the best finisher in our first 11.

Still, if we have a chance to get an all-around top striker like Aubumeyang or Milik, I would go for it.

Will have to wait and see on Keita. Poor fella collapsed on the pitch at the weekend and was rushed to hospital. I believe he's now conscious. Wishing him a speedy recovery

Agreed. Aubameyang especially would be a brilliant signing, a real goal threat who's also proven that he suits Klopp's style. As I've previously said. I think we currently have higher priorities, but signing a player of that quality could change those in its own right as Foxy has pointed out.

Aubameyang is touted to be worth £75m and is RM bound when they sell James. Lacazette, if available for £50m(or under) I would take. Don't laugh, but I wouldn't mind us bidding for Joshua King. Scores quite a few goals a midtable team and could be a 20 plus for us.

Icardi might be a good shout? Hard working and scores goals. Just hit a hat trick today and now has twenty goals in twenty six games this year.

A striker please.

Spend £75m of that £150m on Augbamayangalangalagadingdong and the remainder on some mad hard twat central midfielder and a left back.

Doesn't sound so bad if we can get him for £10-£12m
