Next week (Tuesday) I fly up to Beijing to begin my 8 days hiking and camping (sleeping outdoors in a bivy not a tent) on some of the more remote and totally unmanaged and untended sections of the wall .. these are definitely not those shown in tourist videos or that you are taken to on escorted day trips out of Beijing !
Watch the 5 mins video on this section of the wall, Jiankou (my 2nd day/night), or at least until it shows you the near vertical in places Heavenly Ladder (starting at around 50 secs). This is one of the seven sections I'll be hiking through, I'm absolutely terrified ! I'll be coming down every other day to restock on water and on the 3rd night & 6th night to stay in lodgings to recharge all my batteries.
