Which number has produced the better line of star players for us?

7: Dalglish, Barnes

9: Rush, Fowler, Torres

Feel free to add.

Here's my recollection:

7: Keegan, Dalglish, Beardsley, McManaman (as well as Clough, Smicer, Kewell, Keane etc.)

8. St. John, Case, Lee, Aldridge, Gerrard (as well as Collymore)

9: Heighway, Johnson, Rush, Fowler, Torres (as well as Houghton, Cisse (?)

10: Toshack, McDermott, Molby (?), Barnes, Owen (as well as Voronin)

#7 for me.

i'm pretty sure st john wore 9, and hunt wore 8.

i'm shocked at some of the ignorance here, not st john so much, but getting keegan & barnes wrong is just, well, wrong.

I was half-asleep when I started this thread.

don't pay much attention to the number on the back only the liverbird on the front (which is far too small).
for me it will always be 10 because of the great john barnes. the tradition of great number 10's is currently being magnificently upheld with the sublime voronin.

LOL! I hope it isn't indicative of the knowledge on this board! I'll read on.... 🙂

Torres hasn't done nearly enough yet, but assuming he goes on to achieve what we expect, and in addition to Rush and Fowler, I think No.9 edges it.

I rate all three of them as higher than the next best No.7 after KD. I never saw KK I'm afraid and Bearsdley, whilst great, isn't a true LFc great.

Erm... if I respond am I going to be whooshed?

The only number I can think of that has a perfect track record is number 23. First Fowler and then Carragher. I don't think anyone else has had that shirt.

Dalglish > Rush - 2 legends but even Rushy has to take second-billing to King Kenny.

Keegan > Fowler - A lot of younger posters under estimate Keegan's role in our success in the 70's and IMO he is second in the all-time list of LFC greats behind Kenny.

Beardsley > Torres - Obviously this will change if Torres continues his LFC career in similar fashion to the way he has started.

As things stand the score is 7's 3-0 9's.

Can't diagree with that but..... petty as it may seem.
Rush, Fowler and hopefully Torres will be the same, are recognised as Liverpool Legends.
KK and Beardsley will always be Newcastle legends in the eyes of the greater football world.

Pretty good thanks. This seems like a pretty decent forum, have you been on here for a while? I've seen a few other old names I recognise.

It's gotta be no. 5, chaps...

Ray Kennedy, Ronnie Whelan, Craig Johnston (at times), Daniel Agger, Steve McMahon.

No question.

Hmmm. Decent enough shout. Didn't Steve McMahon wear number 11?

Mark Wright wore number 5 too I think. I used to quite like Mark Wright.

The only slightly woeful number 5 I can think of is Milan Baros and even he had his moments
